Longtime Alexandria resident Johnnie Nell Thomas, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at age 77. She was born in Trout, LA, on August 1, 1937 to the late John Wesley Brown and Maxine Mimms Harris. She married the late Frankie James Thomas, Jr. on November 2, 1956.

Johnnie was a beloved member of the community and an active member of the Greater St. Lawrence Missionary Baptist Church. Her interests included family, church activities and spending quality time with friends. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her mother until she passed away at age 76. Johnnie had 35 years of service at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, and ended her career at Louisiana Physical Therapy.

Johnnie is survived by two children: Terri Thomas Fleming (Carl Fleming, Sr.) and Frankie Thomas Adams (Joseph Adams, Sr.); three grandchildren: NeSha Jovette Adams, Joseph Adams, II and Carl Fleming, Jr.; two sisters: Dorothy Pantallion and Laverne Butler; and one brother: Albert Harris, III (Gloria).

She is preceded in death by her parents, the late John Wesley Brown and Maxine Mimms Harris; a son, the late Jeffery Lynn Thomas; two sisters, the late Billie Ruth Graham and Betty Jean Clayton; and three brothers, the late John Wesley Brown, Robert D. Brown, and L.C Brown.

She died peacefully surrounded by her family, at Houston Hospice in the Texas Medical Center (Houston, TX). The viewing and funeral, will be held at Greater St. Lawrence Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, November 1, 2014.

Viewing is from 9 am - 11 am. Funeral services begin at 11 am, followed by the burial at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
