William McGinty McBride, Jr., MD
Services for William McGinty McBride, Jr., MD will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian with Dr. Robert B. "Bob" Vincent and Mr. Bryan Rhodes officiating. Graveside services with burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Ruston with Dr. Bill Smith officiating, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria.
The family requests that visitation be observed Friday at Hixson Brothers, Alexandria from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday at Grace Presbyterian from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Dr. McBride, 86, of Alexandria passed from this life, Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his residence.
Dr. McBride was born in Ruston, Louisiana. He was a lifelong, active member of the Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Bolton High School in 1946 and attended Louisiana Tech from 1946 to 1950, where he was Vice President of Student Senate, Member of the Student Union, President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Who's Who in America College and Universities. In 1954 he graduated from Tulane Medical School. During his working life, he practiced Internal Medicine in Alexandria from 1961 to 1994, and served a term as Medical Chief of Staff at Rapides General Hospital. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force as a Captain and was discharged from the USAF Reserves as a Major in 1972.
Dr. McBride also had a lifelong involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, he reached Eagle rank while a Scout in Troop 9, served many years on the Board of the Attakapas Council, Recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and for many years was the physician giving medical exams for all the summer campers at Camp Attakapas.
During his retirement years he became a master antique clock restorer and enjoyed building many pieces of treasured furniture for his family in his woodworking shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William McGinty McBride, MD and Annie Lou Sentell McBride; brother, Jack McBride.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Keller McBride of Alexandria; children, Beth Allgood and husband, John of Jackson, Mississippi, Annie Billingsley of Alexandria, William McGinty McBride, III, MD and wife, Sandra of Woodworth, Keller Thomas McBride and wife, Amy of Franklin, Tennessee, John Sentell McBride and wife, Karen of Jackson, Mississippi; sisters, Eugenia Bridges of Minden, LA, Ann Chilcutt and husband, Ben of Columbus, Mississippi, Dale Jones and husband, Peter of Memphis, Tennessee; grandchildren, John Allgood, IV, Will Allgood, Catherine Clark Allgood, Amy F. Schmidt and husband, Patrick, Melissa F. Hooke and husband, Thomas, Sarah F. Koonce and husband, David, Ann Marie McBride, DVM, Marjorie M. Lombard and husband, John, William McGinty McBride, IV, Timm McBride, Charles McBride, Jonathan McBride, Mallory McBride, Mary Catherine McBride, Annie Beth McBride, Jack McBride, Thomas McBride and Ben McBride; great grandchildren, Annie Hooke, Aubrey Hooke, Winona Schmidt and Titus Lombard.
