Gregory L. (Greg) Denning of Nevada City died at home on October 17, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 73.
Born on March 29, 1950 to Mary Lou von Rotz Denning and Orlando Denning in San Rafael, California, Greg moved to Nevada City in 1972 after falling in love with the beauty of the Sierra Nevada.
Greg was a machinist, fabricator, mechanic, and tinkerer; he could make or fix anything. He loved to travel and adventure, drive fast, help friends, propagate plants and eat seafood. He had a wealth of knowledge on geology, muscle cars, trains, and the California Gold Rush. Greg always won at dominos.
Compassionate and big-hearted, Greg went above and beyond to help folks experiencing difficulty get back on their feet. He loved to socialize and was a good friend to all. Greg's word was his bond and he expected honesty and integrity from those around him. Greg amazed everyone with his self-sufficiency and productivity after he broke his back in 1980. He continued to work on cars and projects on his property until shortly before his death.
Greg is survived by his wife Nancy Denning, sister Juli Forde of Cotati, daughters Leona Scanlan (Paul Ramirez) of Sacramento and Summer Scanlan of Grass Valley, grandchildren Possum and Abigail Ramrez, and many cousins all over the United States and Switzerland. We would like to thank cousin Mario (Michelle) Denning of Grass Valley for all of his help and support over the years.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved daughter Tiffany in 1994, and his trusty companion Dusty Dog.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 4pm at Seaman's Lodge: 427 Nimrod St, Nevada City, CA 95959.

Dear Nancy, I´m amazed that Greg pulled through all of his difficult trials for as long as he did. He is an icon in my memory bank because of his enthusiasm, love of life and connection with everyone crossing his path. He was a powerhouse. Sending love to his family and friends.
