Michael Atkinson Obituary

Michael Atkinson

February 13, 1943 – November 21, 2024

Michael J. Atkinson was born in Des Moines, Iowa and passed away in Grass Valley, CA. Mike was the son of Leslie and Lela Atkinson. He was preceded in death by Barbara, his wife of 47 years, and daughter Danielle Atkinson May.

Mike grew up in southern California, graduated from San Fernando Valley State College and served four years in the Coast Guard Reserves. Mike worked in sales, finishing his career as the Sales Manager for a major lithographer in Southern California.

Mike and Barbara resided in Valencia until they moved to Grass Valley. They had a succession of Golden Retriever rescues. Mike enjoyed the hobby of piloting small aircraft.

Mike was an active follower of Jesus Christ. He courageously battled Parkinson's Disease for the last few years of his life and relied heavily on his faith to the end.

An informal memorial will be held at 2 PM on Saturday January 25 at Upper Room Community Church (next to the Auburn DMV). Memorial donations may be made to Living Well Medical Clinic (livingwellmedicalclinic.com) or Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue (homewardboundgoldens.org).

Mike was my dear cousin, but was more like a brother to me as we grew up together. So many fond memories! We had hoped to get to spend some time together during our "Golden" years, but God needed him home in heaven. I will miss him terribly, but will see him soon and we'll have a big family reunion in heaven.

Mike was my neighbor for 7 years when we lived in Grass Valley. He was always kind and generous, a true example of the mature follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Rest in peace my friend,I will see you again in paradise.
Love you, Tim and Angie McKissick
