On Oct. 3, Wakulla High School Theatre took 33 students to Bay High School in Panama City for this year's District One Thespian Competition. It was one of 10 schools across the Florida Panhandle competing with one-act plays.
WHS performed "Annie the Musical," for which it received a superior rating and was named 'Runner Up' for the competition. It also won the award for having the "Best Set."
Luna Martinez was recognized as District One's Best Actor in a Supporting Role for her performance as Miss Hannigan. Logan Hand won the All-Star Cast Award for his performance as Rooster.
On the following day, 18 schools competed in individual events, ranging from performance to technical events. Tate Reynolds received the Critic's Choice Award for best Set Design and Aubrey Recks won the Critic's Choice Award for her original play in the playwriting category.
Overall, 29 students came home with a superior in at least one or more events and will advance to State Competition in March.
