Anthony Palazzolo Obituary

Anthony M. "Polly" Palazzolo, Sr., 91, of Westerly, R.I., passed away peacefully on Nov. 3, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born in Westerly, the son of the late John and Rosalie Palazzolo. He was the loving husband of Josephine A. Palazzolo for 60 years.
As a sailor in the U.S. Navy, Polly served his country in the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters during WWII. Proud memories include liberating Sicily and participating in the medical corps that assisted the survivors of Nagasaki.
A local businessman, he was the proprietor of Polly's Auto Wrecking for 30 years. An influential property rights activist, he set precedent under U.S. Constitution as a successful litigant before the U.S. Supreme Court. He was staunch supporter of the Democratic Party, a long-time golfer, an avid fan of UConn Women's Basketball and a lover of Misquamicut sunsets.
Anthony will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Josephine and their children Michael, Michele, Christine, Theresa, Mary and Anthony, Jr. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Jennifer, Bryan, Jess, David, Cathy and Sophie; and three great-grandchildren: Jameson, Lily and Josie.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law, William Giovacchini of Westerly, sister-in-law Gwen Palazzolo of Norwich, and 32 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Domenic and Vincent Palazzolo, and sisters Helen Giovacchini and Mary Chiaradio.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Mt. Carmel Society of Immaculate Conception, 111 High Street, Westerly, R.I. 02891.

Anthony was a great champion of liberty and property rights. I will forever remember his passion for his cause -- a passion that went well beyond his personal self-interest but reflected more his commitment to liberty. He was a great client and a great man.

The Palazzolo Family,

I had the honor of knowing Mr Palazzolo we met after and automoble accident I was involed with back in 1965. He operated Polly Auto Parts on the Bradford Road. A week after my accident he called my home and asked me to stop by his place of business. Polly as he wanted to be called handed me a small book that he found in my glove compartment. He stated he would give me fifty dollars for the book. He then handed me the book and said look inside of it. I found it to contain a one hundred dollar bill which I recall I had put there while on a trip for safe keeping. Our friendship grew over the years as I became a member of the Westerly Police Department an had to call him to tow many vehicles over the years. I recall Polly telling me never judge the book by it's cover.

Michelle and our extended Family,

When the precious gift of life slips away, we are reminded to look around... the loving family that surrounds you is proof that God's promise is eternal. What better way to remember your Dad, is to share the love and joy of the children he has brought us. Rejoice in the exceptional and rewarding life that Dad has given to all of us.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always.
Joyce, David, Al, Jane and Mike, and all the Bowerings who love you very much.
