Delmar E. "Del" Crandall

Delmar E. "Del" Crandall, 99, of Egypt Street, Ashaway, died peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2008, at The Westerly Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace Eleanor (Champlin) Crandall.
Born in Hopkinton on Dec. 4, 1908, he was the son of the late Ellsworth and Minnie (Thompson) Crandall.
Mr. Crandall had been a carpenter and builder in South County for 40 years working with the late Walter Eccelston. He later retired from the maintenance department at The Westerly Hospital.
Delmar was a pillar and served in every capacity in the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hopkinton for over 80 years.
Mr. Crandall had been active in local politics and served on the Hopkinton Town Council for several terms.
Delmar will be sadly missed by his son Kenneth Crandall and his wife Bette-Ruth Crandall of Clinton, Conn. He was the loving grandfather of Roger Crandall and his wife Jodi Crandall of North Carolina and Lori Crandall and Ray Warren of Wallingford, Conn. He was the great-grandfather of Ashlee Warren, Hailey Warren, J.J. Crandall, Connor Crandall and Ian Crandall. He was the brother of Linton Crandall, Doris Debigare and Elva Larkin, all of Hopkinton. He his also survived by many dear neighbors and friends who considered him like a grandfather and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother William Crandall.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., at the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hopkinton, Church Street, Ashaway, A calling hour will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in First Hopkinton Cemetery, Chase Hill Road, Ashaway.
