Ernest A. Evans

PAWCATUCK - Ernest A. Evans, 84, of Pequot Trail, Pawcatuck, passed away surrounded by his loving family, at the Westerly Hospital on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 62 years, to the late Linda A. (Donovan) Evans, who predeceased him on December 22, 2023. 

Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Rose and Henry Evans.

Following his time in the United States Marine Corps, Ernest dedicated his time to the car industry, earning countless accolades and establishing himself as a well-known part of the automotive community. Throughout his tenure as a manager of MJ Sullivan's car dealership, Ernest took immense pride in his work as it laid the foundation for a comfortable life, filled with cherished moments and opportunities for his family. After retiring from his esteemed career, Ernest poured his heart and soul into cultivating and maintaining his beautiful home, koi pond, and manicured gardens. Lovingly known as "Grumpy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he adored seeing them enjoy his estate as they jumped through his leaf piles and ran through the trees in hopes of finding hidden Easter eggs and treasures.

While Ernest was a man of few words, his family will forever miss seeing the warm smile that often broke through his brusque exterior when surrounded by his loved ones – but just a few of them at a time, and only for a short while.

Ernest and his adored wife, Linda are reunited once more. Their earthly journey may have come to an end, but their legacy lives on in the hearts of their family and friends. He is now also reunited with his beloved son, Craig, and his two brothers Henry Evans Jr. and William Evans. 

Ernest is survived by his two daughters, Whitney Stamm and husband Peter of Pawcatuck and Cynthia Taburet and husband David of Rochester Hills, MI, his brother Daniel Evans of Westerly, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. 

Visiting hours will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 1pm-3pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 3pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private. For online condolences please visit www.gafneydolanfuneralhome.com.
