Evelyn M. "Granny" Sciro

Evelyn M. "Granny" (Blair) Sciro, of Linnate St., Westerly, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at the age of 95. She was the wife of the late Joseph Sciro.
Born in Willimantic, CT, she was a daughter of the late Adelard and Margaret Blair.
Evelyn worked as a machine operator for Ashaway Line & Twine for many years. She was also a lifelong resident of Pawcatuck prior to moving to Westerly with her daughter recently and an avid walker, especially at the beach. Evelyn was a devoted communicant of St. Michael Church, a lifetime member of the Westerly Yacht Club, a member of the Emblem Club, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Elks, where she was nominated "Mother of the Year." She loved sports, was a UConn Girls' Basketball fan, and was always at every game for her children and grandchildren. Her whole life was her family and friends.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Toni Gengarella of Westerly and a sister, Helen Boucher of Willimantic. Evelyn also leaves six grandchildren, Laurie Cobleigh, Guy and Kris Gengarella, and Michael, Robert, and Rae Ann Sciro; six great-grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin and Kelcie Cobleigh, and Joseph, Michael Thomas and Colby Sciro; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Robert Sciro, and her brother, Roland Blair.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 9-10:30 a.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St, Westerly. Immediately following at 11:30 a.m., a Funeral Liturgy will take place in St. Mary's Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. There is no procession to the church from the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Michael Church Building Fund or Home & Hospice of RI, in Evelyn's memory.
