Frank Champlin Obituary

Frank W. "June" Champlin Jr., 99 of Dunns Corners Rd, Westerly, RI, died peacefully on Saturday January 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Florence L. (Osborne) Champlin.
Born in Westerly, RI on December 13, 1924 he was the son of the late Frank W. and Doris (Collins) Champlin. Mr. Champlin owned and operated the F. Champlin Trucking Co. for over 70 years and was an original board member of the Rhode Island Independent Contractors Assoc., and belonged to the American Truck Historical Society and other professional organizations.
June was a pillar in the Dunns Corners Community and a charter & life member of the Dunns Corners Fire Department, serving as Assistant Chief for several years. He received many awards for his years of service. He was creative, smart and hard-working as shown by his dedication to building the first Dunns Corners fire truck out of scrap parts, to helping to build the jetty in Misquamicut to delivering a few loads of fill at the last minute.
June and Flo enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the United States with his camper in tow and was a long time member of the Good Sam Camping and RV Club. He also enjoyed his antique tractors and belonged to several tractor clubs. His latest projects included restoring farm tractors on which he placed his signature chrome horses. June loved being with his family and friends and especially enjoyed holding court during morning coffee. His storytelling was unparalleled and his generosity knew no bounds.

I must have rode a thousand miles with June. When Sherwood Hills was being developed. June always let us kids ride with him on trucks and equipment. He always took care of us. A nicer man you will not find. I still have a watch fob he gave me from sixty years ago. He wii be missed and I will never forget him. May he rest in peace.

Champlin Family,

I had the honor of knowing Mr. Champlin for many years, he was a kind man who walked on mother earth with honor. He told me to call him June he said my father was Mr. Champlin, that was the beginning of our friendship. He owned and operated large trucks for many years with his brother Richard. Our families owned campers and gathered at several local camp sites together over the years. The good food we shared and Storey telling will be remembered. The Dunns Corners Fire Department played a big part with the Champlin family. I recall I first met June and brother Richard at the old Dunns Corners service station owned by the late Mr. Ed Green. If you were looking for someone or needed directions that had the answers, they knew just about everyone in the area. We slept at Franks and Richard trailer in Summerfield, Florida while on vacation with them. Rest in peace June you worked hard all your life and left a trail for family members to follow.

The true meaning of a "gentle-man." We will miss moments and visits by the cranking wood stove! We imaging him, with his bride, enjoying cake, pie and fruit cake, at a heavenly campsite! Rest easy, dear grampa. To those left behind, we send soooo much looove to your hearts With Love, The Gregory Gang
