Harry Buckley Obituary

Harry Buckley, Jr., 67, lost his courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Born on Dec. 8, 1940 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Foley) Buckley. After graduating in 1959 from Cheshire Academy, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Rhode Island. He then graduated from Officers Candidate School in Newport, RI. Lieutenant Buckley served in the Navy as CIC Officer aboard the Willis A. Lee.
He was an account executive for Honeywell Information Systems for over 20 years in Westport, Conn. and completed his career in IT and Telecommunication Sales with Telematics of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. After retiring in 2000, Buck returned to the Pawcatuck/Westerly area where he immersed himself in the local community.
He was a Life Member of the Westerly Yacht Club; served on the board of the Westerly Lions Club; and enjoyed belonging to the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, the Westerly Elks, the Calabrese Club, the Bocce Club, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick's and SENESGA.
Often seen heading out to Block Island or just a casual weekend at Napatree Point, Buck was happiest when at the helm of his trawler, Au Naturel, with his wife and sons as his crew. When in "dry dock," he enjoyed days on the golf course and cheering for UCONN Basketball.
Buck will be remembered for his upbeat attitude, quick wit and his wonderful gift of storytelling. No one could tell a joke better than Buck. Above all, his love for his family was first in his heart.
He leaves his wife Judith (Madden); two sons, Richard Earl (Reb) Buckley and his wife, Holly, of East Lyme, Conn., and J. David Buckley and his wife, Ingrid, of Brooklyn, Conn.; and three loving grandchildren, Sydney Elizabeth, Madden Elle and Juliana.
The family wishes to thank Buck's doctors and healthcare providers from Yale-New Haven Hospital and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for their genuine concern and compassionate care.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, March 2 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Buckler Johnston Funeral home in Westerly, RI. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Westerly, at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 3.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Mel Goldstein Multiple Myeloma Research Fund at Yale Cancer Center. Please contact Kathleen Derringer at (203) 436-8531 or [email protected] on information on how to donate.
