John Jablonski Obituary

John William Jablonski, 84 of East Beach, Quonochontaug, Rhode Island and Lake Park, Florida, died 14-Feb-2022 after a two year battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Gladys (Glad) Sage Jablonski and their 3 children, Joey Sage Jablonski, John Edward Jablonski, and Jennifer Ayla Jay, and two sisters, Janet Glitzenstein and Rosemary Ford. He also is survived by 3 grandchildren, Joey's son, Charles (Chaz) Earle Funk V, and Jennifer's twin boys, Kai and Leo Patel. John served as an officer in the US Navy stationed at Norfolk Naval Station, Virginia and enjoyed a long career as an Aeronautical Engineer at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut. While maintaining a winter home in Florida, John, Glad and family continue to be members of the Quonochontaug East Beach Association (QEBA) after 57 years. John enjoyed boating and many will recall fishing for blue fish with him at Race Point off Long Island, or water skiing behind his beloved 18 ft. Grady White, docked many a summer at Lotteryville Marina in Westerly, Rhode Island. John and Glad especially enjoyed the abundance of wildlife near East Beach and explored all corners of Ninigret Pond by boat or kayak. A voracious reader of nonfiction books on history, science, and politics, he had an unending thirst for knowledge and was always excited to share what he had learned. His other interests included astronomy, birdwatching, tennis, and walking miles and miles. In accordance with John's wishes his body was cremated and his remains have been simply placed by his children in a spot close to his heart. For those who wish to express condolences, a donation in John's memory to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or Audubon (https://www.audubon.org) would be appreciated. Cards/notes to Glad, and the rest of the family can be sent c/o Joey Sage Jablonski, 84 Trescott Hill Rd, Canaan, CT 06018.
