Joseph Knight, Jr. Obituary

Joseph C. Knight, Jr., 68, died unexpectedly on Mon., August 31, 2015, at his home.
Born in Westerly, on June 14, 1947, he was the son of Catherine (Greene) Knight of Pawcatuck and the late Joseph C. Knight, Sr.
Joe graduated from Stonington High School in 1965, and recently had a great time at his 50th reunion. He went on to graduate from Bryant University with a BA in business and later received his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Joe was employed at Electric Boat in Groton for 38 years before his retirement in 2013. He was an Eagle Scout, a former member of the Pawcatuck Volunteer Fire Department, and a longtime volunteer for the Pawcatuck Little League.
Joe was an avid golfer and an active member of Pequot Golf Course in Stonington, where he spent most of his time after retirement. He loved being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. Joe was a devoted fan of all New England sports, especially the Red Sox (even this season). He was a walking encyclopedia and will always be remembered for his sense of humor and contagious laugh.
Besides his mother he will be sadly missed by his five children; Heather and husband Mat Tarbox of Mystic; Shannon and husband Rob Betjemann of New London; Matt and wife Jessi of Portland, Oregon; Jeffrey and wife Juanita of Miami Lakes, Florida; and Jillian and husband Simon Nesbo of Bergen, Norway. He was affectionately called "Bompa" by his five grandchildren; Charlie, Leo, Cassius, Millie and Harmony. He also leaves his brother, Steve Knight and wife Janet of Pawcatuck, CT; and his sister, Catherine Plesz and husband Mike of Martha's Vineyard, MA. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held Sat., at 1 p.m., at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. A reception will follow at the Pequot Golf Course, 127 Wheeler Rd., Stonington, CT 06378 at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Westerly Animal Rescue League, 33 Larry Hirsch Lane, Westerly, R.I. 02891.

To the Knight families. I am truly sorry for your loss. I would usually see Joe and and Richard down at the coffee shop in town. Joe always had a smile and a laugh that would light up the room. I also knew Joe from E/B and Pawcatuck Little League girls softball. May he rest in peace and my prayers to all the family.
