The CAPTAIN.....HE led by example, we all wanted to follow him....I think during the early stages at VHS, he along with Coach Cheira, Coach DiGorgio, Paulo, Marty Carl, Rusty Terry... and others, we're the strength of our success....GOD BLESS HIM, AND ALL THE OTHERS, who have gone home. Didn't realize it then, but that was the BEST TIME OF MY LIFE...

He was the Captain during the early years of VHS. His raspy voice and leadership, helped inspire those that followed him. He was a true competitor and a great teammate... he will be missed....Regards Les

Duffelmeyer family/Mickey/ Wendy and Jitterbug: Iwill never forget the good times and sometimes bad times spent growing up in Valhallla with the Duffelmeyer family. We would play outside all day then go into the basement of the Overlook house and get an ice cream. Badminton in the back yard. Walking to elementary school every day, playing with our dogs. When I moved to Valhalla from White Plains. I was not an athlete but thanks to Mickey being a leader amongst us kids I became a pretty good athlete as did Mickey. We played hoops everyday out in front of the Overlook house. Jit was the biggest person I knew and Wendy so pretty. You parents were great and treated us kids as their own. We all played three sports but Mickey was the inspiration. I know Mickey never knew what It felt like to be sacked during football season as he was our quarterback and I was one of the lineman to protect him. Mickey taught a lot of kids good things and they/we/I will never forget . Till we meet again Mickey GOD BLESS

As a kid I watched Mickey ice skate near my home on Blenis Place. Watched him play football, basketball and baseball. He could do it all. Wanted to be just like him.

Uncle Moose was a great role model growing up. One of the coolest, most admired and a true inspiration to me. He always made me feel proud to be his nephew and to be a Duffelmeyer.I will always remember my Dads brother as a great all around person who was well loved by many.I wish there were more people like him.
He will forever live in my heart.

So sorry to hear about Mickey. I was a student of Mickey's in Middle School and always respected his support and encourgaement of his students to be the best they could be - He will be missed! They say the greatest gift we can all leave behind is impacting the life of a child - well he has done that!

I am so very sad to hear of Mickey's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family. I will always remember the great all star baseball teams we played on in our mid teens that started our close friendship that developed in the late sixties and early seventies and the countless pitchers of beer we consumed at the Log Cabin Restaurant. Mick, you will be greatly missed but I know you are doing what you always loved and playing in that big ballfield way up in the sky.
Rest well my friend,

Coach Duff: Was a great coach and man. I hope he knew what a positive impact he had on many of us who played for him or had him as a teacher. He was fun, knowledgeable, an inspiration-- because he was great athlete and very supportive. He will be missed.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mickey. He was my varsity football coach in 1977, and I have very fond memories of him. He was a decent man, a well liked teacher and great coach to play for. He always treated his players fairly and with respect. If you worked hard and gave 100% he always gave you an opportunity to play and succeed, and for that I am grateful. My thoughts and prayers are with your family

I attended Valhalla High School with Mickey. We also grew up in the same neighboorhood. In the late 80's I began working at Westlake Middle School and again was able to reminisce about Valhalla with him. He loved being up on all the news. He will be missed by many. My heart goes out to his family.

Page 3 Mickey taught me back in 1961 how to drive a three speed car. He would sit on the floor and work the clutch so I did not stall the car. His car had an expired inspection sticker and when he drove by a Police Officer he would stick his hand out of the window to cover the expired inspection.

Page2. I was so proud of you when you graduated from Springfield and started teaching. I will never forget the great times we had at your house with your brother sister and parents and the Backus family. I know you passed on your leadership traits that you had
back then while teaching. You were the only H.S. quarterback to never get sacked thanks to the great line you had in front of you. Love you brother and I will see you in another world.

Mickey: I will never forget after moving from White Plains to Valhalla you accepted me and taught me how to live in the Country. We did a lot of things together for a long time. In the back woods at Ed Hasteys, on the field and on the court. Many a day I spent eating you Parent's ice cream in your basement. Hunting in the back woods with a slingshot and stick. Sleeping in our homemade wood tent behind the Buschini's house. Walking to #1 School every day and learning with Mr. Hall.

I had the pleasure of going to Valhalla High School and watching Mickey play basketball. Then, as luck would have it, I was fortunate to work with Mickey as a colleague for many years at Westlake.
In this difficult time, I hope that all the wonderful memories he created with family and friends are a comfort.

Dear Ann, Heather and family. Mickey will be missed in my heart. Being part of the extended family and growing a couple of houses away, things that I remember about my cousin: listening to Mickey banging on the drums, watching the cousins playing street basketball, sometimes they would allow me to play, but they would help teach me about the game, lastly the subtle pranks Mickey would pull on me in my youth.
Mickey will be truely missed.
Love; Cousin Bruce

.I was supposed to be going with the JV football team in the 10th grade, but I ran alongside Mickey to be with the varsity. Coach didn't know it until practice was over, but I made the team, because Mickey was the leader and inspiration of that time. Don LaVar, ( Florida )
