As a young boy growing up in Bingham Canyon and son of the Chief of Police, I knew Paul well and went to school with Jim. I remember every year Paul got a deer bow hunting. I always knew Paul as a man of deep integrity and he always had my respect. I am so sorry for you loss and send my love and condolences to Jean and your family.

Weldon Johnson and family are greatly saddened to hear of Paul's passing. He was a relative and also a good friend to my Father and Mother Verdell. Dad has been remembering Paul these past few days with stories of their hunting trips. May your family be comforted at this sad time knowing you will be together again. The Weldon Johnson family. Jean
Sorry to hear of PAUL'S passing. I first met Paul when I was assigned to go to Bingham and watch the Bingham vs. Cyprus basketball game. He said if their was any trouble at the game to get him on the radio and he and Jessie Lopez would do the heavy work. He scared me one day as we were walking down the street from the
Sheriff's Office when he drew his revolver and shot the bell on the side of the mountain. I guess he did that to all the new guys. I worked for him as a motorcycle sergeant for many years when he was over the traffic division. Paul was fun to be around, I enjoyed listening to his stories of Bingham Canyon. He always use to say he lives in Lead Mine, not Bingham. He was a legend of his time.
Again I am sorry for your loss and hope you will be comforted in your time of need.
Best Wishes,
Pink Evans

1961, Myself and Bob Sundquist were working a Bingham high and West high basketball game in the old Bingham high school. When the game was over the parking lot was an instant large fight between the two schools. Bob and I were doing our best. suddenly the fight stopped. Coming into the parking lot was Paul and Jesse, ( the Bingham P.D.)The kids from Bingham got into their cars and left, Waving to Paul. Everyone in Bingham Respected him.He was a good fair man who made friends with everyone, even the high school kids
Rest in peace good friend.

Mrs. LaBounty, Jim, Bobbie

For many years growing up with Jim I considered you all as family, as much as I did my own. Paul spoiled Jim and I, taking us places like boxing and wrestling. I will never forget when he locked the both of us up in the old Bingham jail. I will always remember him. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

Dear Jean, we were so sorry to hear of Paul's death. I first met Paul in 1960 when I joined the Sheriff's office and worked with him until his retirement. I was on the pistol team with Paul and he always said 'take a teaspoon of honey before you shoot it will calm your nerves'. Paul was a one in a lifetime guy. We were instant friends and stayed that way for many years. You always knew where you stood with Paul. It was an honor and pleasure to work with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

When you worked for Captain LaBounty you knew he had your back. I'll never forget meeting him for the first time to ask if I could work for him in the Sheriff's Traffic Division. We talked about our combat experience and being wounded. Two weeks later I was working for him. A warrior who never forgot what it was to walk the walk and talk the talk. I'll never forget you Captain.

I remember Paul from Bingham, he was a hardworking guy, very serious about his job. He was born about the same time as my parents (within two years). He was a stable, steady guy and will be sorely missed by all who loved him. To the Labounty family, I am sorry for your loss! He was a good man. Dan Martinez

I'm sorry to read this obituary. I was a telephone operator in Bingham Canyon at the same time that Paul was a policeman there in the late 1950's. I remember how friendly he was -- and the one thing that sticks out in my mind is that every day, Paul would bring all of us operators an ice cream treat. He was loved there -- not only for his personality, but for his generosity.

My condolences to all of the family.
