Peter J. Creaturo

Peter J. Creaturo, 85, of Watch Hill Road, Avondale, and former longtime New Rochelle, N.Y., resident, died July 28, 2008, in the Watch Hill Care and Rehab Center, Westerly. He was the husband of the late Edith Marie (Johnson) Creaturo who predeceased him on July 19, 2008.
Born in New Rochelle, he was the son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Fontanarosa) Creaturo.
Peter had been employed with the New Rochelle Police Department for many years, retiring as Sgt./Detective.
He had been a member of the New Rochelle Elks Club, Lions Club, and American Legion. He held a private pilot's license, and was the head teacher of the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Unit of the N.R.P.D. He loved boating and enjoyed car racing.
Peter was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class, awarded the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with nine Bronze Stars, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon and the European African Ribbon with one star.
Surviving are his three children, Peter J. Creaturo of Virginia, Robert J. Creaturo and Nancy Ann Creaturo, both of Westerly; a brother, Joseph A. Creaturo and his wife Marjorie, formerly of Watch Hill, now residing in Stonington; a sister, Norma M. (Creaturo) Stone and her husband William T., formerly of Westerly, now residing in S. Yarmouth, Mass.; two grandchildren, Jennie Ritchie and Lacey Creaturo; and one great-grandchild, Brady Ritchie, all of Virginia; five nieces and nephews, John J. Creaturo of Mystic, Michael A. Creaturo of Avondale, and William Stone Jr., Christine Stone Pelham, and Mary Beth Stone Brenner, all formerly of Westerly; and several cousins.
Calling hours are omitted. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service to be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Burial with military honors will be in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
