Peter Scott Zegarzewski, age 56 of Loudon, TN, formerly of Charlestown, RI, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2021. He was devoted to his family as a loving husband, patient father, enthusiastic grandfather and loyal son. Peter was the "number one patient" of his three year old granddaughter Avery, practicing her doctor skills. She often referred to her Jahgoo as "the Dude" when she forgot his name. Peter was an excellent role model and mentor to his family, community and at Pfizer where he enjoyed his 36 year career. He loved coaching and influencing the youth of the community, and especially loved watching his sons play sports even more. Peter was extremely proud to have both of his sons inducted into the Chariho High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a 1980 state champion on the Senior League All Star Baseball Team. Peter was also on the 1989 mens softball team that qualified for Nationals with the nickname "the Kid". He enjoyed spending time outdoors doing activities with his family and friends such as camping, golfing, pitching horseshoes and fishing (he was an awesome fishing line untangler). People who knew him knew that he was a lifelong passionate fan of all Boston teams. Peter often joked that being a Sox fan may have caused his "heart" condition. In Tellico Village he was known as a superior athlete. Peter had the ability to fix anything and he was always up for a project. He was a good friend who would help anyone who needed him. Survived by his wife of 36 years, Tracy Weber Zegarzewski; sons and daughters-in-law, Alexander and Toni Zegarzewski, Tyler and Amalea Zegarzewski; granddaughter, Avery Zegarzewski; parents, Peter F. Zegarzewski and Leola Zegarzewski; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Jerry Poston; brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Stacy Zegarzewski; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, June 19th at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street in Westerly, Rhode Island. A celebration at a later date in Tennessee is being planned. Memorials may be made in Peter's memory to a charity of your choice. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City, TN is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry to have just heard this tragic news. Pete and my lives strangely crossed paths many times through the years. First when we were kids. Although four years younger, Pete was a superior athlete who I envied for his athletic gifts. Even as a youngster Pete was gracious and encouraging as I tried to compete. The day I started at Pfizer in 1984 I was thrilled to meet Pete again as we both started in the Citric Acid Dept. on the same day. In fact, in order to establish seniority they flipped a coin. Pete won the coin flip (beat me again). Pete was highly respected at Pfizer for his work ethic and good nature. We worked together there for three years. Many years passed without me seeing Pete. About 15 years ago a college student, Alex, joined the rec staff at Strawberry Park campground in Preston. Alex was the best rec staff member I´ve ever seen at the park. In talking with him one day I discovered he was Pete´s oldest son. Alex was just like his dad....a great athlete with a super personality that drew you to him. Ten years ago fate connected me and Pete again. Strawberry Park had an annual Father´s Day horseshoe tournament which included free beer and food for dads. While pouring a beer out of the tap I looked up, and there stood Pete. We chatted for a while as Pete waited for his turn to throw shoes (and yes, he was a better horseshoe player than me too). I was privileged to meet Pete´s wife Tracy and several of his friends. He spoke mostly of his two sons. He was justifiably very proud of them. For the next five years or so I would run into Pete at the horseshoe pits on Father´s Day. I always looked forward to our conversations catching up on each other´s lives and bragging about our kids. I stopped finding Pete on Father´s Day a few years ago. I wondered where he had gone. I missed our annual chat. I will always feel a strong bond with Pete due to the coincidences which kept bringing us together. I am deeply saddened by his passing, and I will never forget him.

Dear Tracy, Alex and Tyler,
I was heart broken when I heard the news about Pete. I first met him when he coached Ryan and Sean on their first soccer team! He was amazing, very kind, patient and enthusiastic. While I was yelling run and pay attention, Pete was shouting , “great job guys, you can do it!” Lol
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this time of sadness. God Bless

We are privileged to call ourselves longtime friends of Peter's parents, Pete and Cookie, from way before our days working at the A&P together. We knew Peter when he was a baby and know how proud his parents were to be his parents. They are the only Chariho friends with whom we have maintained constant contact over the last 70 years. We know that Peter and his younger family have been a constant source of pride in their lives and share their grief in Peter's loss. May God bless the entire family as they deal with their loss.

The sad and untimely news of Pete's death reached us in Florida this weekend. So sorry for the entire family. Knowing Pete and his family through his junior high and high school years was a joy. From all reports
Pete had a good life filled with giving and receiving love. Maybe there is some solace in Cavafy's poem, Ithaca. There is joy and pleasure in the journey, which is what it is all about. It seems Pete had a great journey. It was a pleasure and joy to have seen part of it. Take care and hang in there.

It was with a heavy heart that I read of Peter's passing. He was such a nice guy with a wonderful family. He was warm, friendly and fun loving. I have such happy memories of the times I spent with the men's softball league especially when we traveled.
I had the pleasure of having Alex in my class. Peter was very supportive of his education as was his mom. It was as important as playing sports.
You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilege of coaching youth sports along side Pete and I admired and learned a lot from his style. He always made it fun while teaching skills at the same time. I know Alex and Tyler will carry that forward. Be strong Tracy and God speed Coach Z.
