So sad to hear of your passing. I’ve known you for a good deal of my life. You always looked for the good in everyone, and you always, always, encouraged fair play. You meant a lot to many of my Mystic generation. The world and Mystic, has lost a good and caring, human being.

Beth, I'm in Florida now and just received information about Roger. Without Roger's understanding the Mystic River Moon Runners would not have been so popular. With Roger's help the moon runners were able to conduct running events in support of the centers Building Fund and Roger help us on the softball field when we were short a player. Hope to see you soon.

I just caught up with the news of the loss of Roger. I moved out of Mystic long ago, but remember fondly my time in Mystic at the "Center"... Roger was such a helpful guide for me in navigating my youth and teen years. He created fun and safe times for the kids of Mystic.... dances at the Center on Saturday nights, and in the summer-at the beach, the block dances at the A&P parking lot and later at the Seaport parking lot. Hundreds of kids benefitted, the regulars..... the Dorseys, Foleys, the Swanns, Richie Brooks, Billy Woodward, Donny Main, Ricky Durham, Rich Glennen, Barbara and Cindy Friswell, Fritz Hillbert, Debbie and Sue Evarts, so many more..... Roger was a great role model for all the kids of Mystic. The 60's were changing times and he helped to offer us so many good choices... basketball, gymnastics, movies, roller skating trips, trips to Riverside, but the best was just having a place to go and hang out - ping pong, pinball machines, bumper pool and that AWFUL piano!!! It was a fun safe place with such a great person to learn from. Thank you, Rog.... Rest In Peace.

I am sorry to learn of the passing of a person who made growing up in the 60's and 70's in Mystic a wonderful and magical place. Many of the lessons I learned at MCC and Williams Beach continue to serve me today. Thank you, Roger, and thank you Beth for the influences you both have had on my life. Roger will be missed, but his lessons for living will continue on.

Like many here, I too had pleasant memories of the Pearl Street location: playing hopscotch and other "pre-school" activities, learning to swim at Williams Beach and
Mr. Quesnel. Condolences to Beth ( my excellent junior high algebra teacher) and family.

Beth & Jeff
I am so sorry to learn of Roger's passing when I returned home from a mini vacation. His friendship goes back into the mid 60's when I ran the waterfront at Williams Beach. His knowledge when he spoke and friendliness were attributes that all of us should try and emmulate. He always had a warm smile and friendly greeting for everyone he came in contact with. May you find solace in the knowledge that he has gone to the reward that he earned here on earth. May his soul rest in peace in the presence of the Lord.

We were very sorry to learn of Roger's passing. Although we only saw him a few times over the years at family picnics, weddings, funerals, etc., his character and goodness certainly shone through. George loved talking sports with him. Our deepest condolences to Beth and Jeff. God bless.

Beth and Family,

The contributions you and Roger made to the Pearl St. Mystic Community center (and so much more) were the makings of many fine childhood memories (fun, developmental and safe). The manner in which you genuinely helped and inspired so many, most can only aspire to master. Hopefully you find comfort and peace in knowing what you've both meant to our community.

Beth and Jeff:
I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of my Mentor, Boss and most of all my friend. There wasn't a time that Roger didn't let some boy or girls participate in any program that they could not afford. He let them all have fun.
I was fortunate enough to have worked for Roger as a Life Guard down at Williams Beach. I fondly remember the day that he told me I was going to teach swimming lessons. I was excited but what he didn't tell me was it was going to be the “huggers”. These were the kids who never swam and they just hugged onto your neck for dear life. Roger just smiled when I found out.
Life down at the MCC on Pearl Street is a story by itself. We held Teen Dances, movies on Saturday for the kids, Volley ball, and Basketball. I remember that because the gym was so small the walls were in play.
One of the funniest things I recall was when Roger tried to fix a broken copper pipe with duct tape. He was so proud of himself to having stopped the leak he showed it to the jack of all trades of the MCC Mr. Benny Benoit. He could fix anything. Benny told Roger what a good job he did, but when Roger left Benny would go right behind him and repair it correctly.
Roger will be missed, but he will be remembered in all of our hearts for the joy he brought to each and every one of us for the rest of our lives.

The service this morning was absolutely magnificent and very moving. I first met Roger at a rotary club luncheon where he was going to be given a check from the rotary for 25,00)towards the new community center building. The service this morning room was pact. There were no empty seats accept for one at the table. When I first met Roger he was attending a rotary club luncheon for the new community center. Out to the whole room there was only one seat left and I took it! ... and it changed my life. I told him that I might be able to raise some money for his new center. I loved working with Roger and together we raised 1.9 million dollars. That was a miracle. I will always cherish my adventure with him. Blessings to your family. Roy Welch

Beth, Jeffrey,and family;

Deepest sympathies. Roger was so many things to so many people. Nobody had a greater impact on the youths and community of the greater Mystic area in the last fifty years. You could spend a lifetime looking but would find few better people than Roger Quesnel. He was an example to all of us who knew him.

Beth and Jeff,

Mackensie and I were so sad to hear about Roger passing away. He was such a kind person and so supportive of us, as he was to so many young people living in Mystic and Stonington. I remember meeting him for the first time when Debbie and I took gymnastics class at the MCC on Pearl Street. You were both such a huge part of our childhood, esp. middle school and high school years. I will always remember Roger for his gentle, kind ways with a twinkle in his eye. With Beth as our coach, we were so fortunate to have Roger along for the ride, too. Lots of great memories. Thinking about both of you and your extended family. Please know that we are here for you. Love you both.

Like so many others have mentioned in these entries, he was a positive role model for the girls and women involved in the MCC programs, for me, especially the gymnastics. He will be truly missed. Glad to have had the chance to know him and love this guest book picture of him. Condolences to Beth and Jeff, and may you find comfort in the support of the community who so loved him during this time.

Dear Beth & Jeff~ Just seeing the names of the people who have written in the guest book brought so many wonderful memories of Roger and the Mystic Community Center flooding back to me.In the 60's and 70's, I literally grew up at the "Center" from pre school with Mrs. Gainsley to the ski club to Jr.Board to chairing the "Bare Walls Party" to open the new Center and Roger was there EVERY step of the way. I never met a kinder or more relentlessly patient man. He would endure Anne Marie Dorsey and I playing 100 versions of "Heart and Soul" on the piano, referee a dispute and a basketball game, check the ice in our "skating rink",smile through the noise and the chaos and know all of our names. Other than my Dad, Roger was truly the most influential man in my life growing up. He was the epitome of grace, fairness and dignity. God has one heck of an amazing new angel. Roge( as we all called him)I hope when you look down from heaven, you will know the countless numbers of lives you touched on this earth. I am one of those lives and I will forever be grateful for having known you. You will be missed but we are blessed to now have our very own shining "Mystic" star in the sky.

Growing up, Beth and Roger were like second parents to me and the Mystic Community Center was a second home. I can say without a doubt that Roger was one of the single most important influences in my life. His gentle kindness, laughter, and his ability to make everyone he met feel important are qualities that that I have tried to emulate. He championed girls and women in sports at a time when not many did. It was on his teams, that I learned what true sportsmanship is. The respect, gratitude, and civil service that Roger displayed resound dearly in my soul. We have lost a good one, but those of you who have had the privilege of knowing this tender soul, know that he will joyfully live on in our hearts.
