Thomas Sweeney Obituary
He is survived by his daughter, Keelin M. W. Sweeney of Polson, MT and his sister Deidre A. Sweeney of New York, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Cassandra W. Sweeney and his parents Thomas and Robin Sweeney.
Tom was born to Thomas and Robin Sweeney September 30th, 1948 in Hackensack, NJ. He graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 1966. He went on to graduate manga cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Williams College in 1970 and cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1973. He began his legal career at Cravath, Swaine, & Moore and clerked for Judge Lloyd McMahon of the Southern District of New York. Eventually, he became a founding member of Davis, Markel, Dwyer, & Edwards, practicing law there and at its successor firms, eventually retiring as a partner of Hogan Lovells.
He was an active library volunteer at Hiram Halle Library in Pound Ridge, NY and spent many winters back at Williams College as a volunteer professor of constitutional law for the annual Winter Study. He spent his summers in Watch Hill, RI and was an avid golfer and reader.
Funeral services are planned for this August in Watch Hill, RI. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

This is sad news indeed. Tom and I were Gladden housemates and football team managers for three years. We would set up football drills and then run through them before the team. We got more exercise than the team. Tom was a contributor while we were in school and for decades after with his outstanding Supreme Court Winter Study with Bob Groban and Jay Nelson. He was brilliant and articulate. He was my friend. He will be missed.

I am so glad I got to spend some time with Tom at reunion. He and his parents were generous, welcoming hosts to a confused country kid.
