Virginia Keaveny Obituary

CHARLESTOWN, RI- Virginia Keaveny, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts, Virginia attended St. John's High School, where she met the love of her life, John Jack Keaveny of Lynn, Massachusetts. The two were married in 1958 and began building a life full of love, laughter, and community. In the 1960s, they moved to the South End of Hartford, Connecticut, where they raised their family and became an integral part of the neighborhoods rich, close-knit fabric.

Ginny was well-known for her legendary Christmas Eve parties and her famous lasagna. Always surrounded by friends and family, she became a beloved matriarch of the South End community. She worked for many years in the Hartford Public School System and was a passionate educator. A devoted Red Sox fan, she rarely missed a game and faithfully attended every sporting event her children and grandchildren participated in.

Ginny had a deep love for gardening, flowers, and plants, but nothing compared to the love she had for her family. In 1988, she and Jack moved to Charlestown, Rhode Island, where she continued to give of herself, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, hospice, and always offering a warm, welcoming home for summer visitors.

Ginny's warmth, strength, and kindness touched everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love and family will live on through the many lives she impacted.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Jack Keaveny, and their sons: John of Charlestown, RI; Ken and his wife Stacy of Tarpon Springs, FL; Brian and his wife Barbara of South Windsor, CT; and Michael of Charlottesville, VA. Virginia also leaves behind ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ginny will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church, 437 Carolina Back Rd, Charlestown, RI. Burial will follow in Riverbend Cemetery, 117 Beach Street, Westerly, RI.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
