William McFerren Obituary
1930 - 2021
William J McFerren, age 90, passed away on August 11, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on November 24, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Russel and Alma McFerren. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Louise McFerren; children, Cathy McFerren, David (Lisa) McFerren, Linda (Chris) Coffey; grandchildren, Corey, Alexandra (Levi), Bailey, Andrea, and Allysha; as well as his future great granddaughter. Bill graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1948. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and 1956 graduate. He also adored his Cincinnati Reds. He was a proud Korean War Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. He married his true love, Louise in 1956 and the two of them made a wonderful life together. Bill enjoyed square dancing with Cali Ho and Road Runners. Family and friends will always remember Bill being great at many things. He was the "sports trivia king." It was hard to beat him in any game and brother-in-law, Bob will fondly remember never being able to win a game of chess against him. Most of all, Bill loved being around people and spending time with his family. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 6-8pm at Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, Ohio 43229. A Funeral Service will take place the following morning on Wednesday August 18, 2021, at 9:30am, Pastor Ryan Grace officiating. Interment immediately following at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave, Columbus, OH 43223. To know Papa, is to love Papa.

I knew Bill from Portsmouth High School. I graduated in 1950. I met him again at the Riverside Heartsounds meetings in the Riverside Auditorium 36 years ago. I can testify that Bill always made instant friends with his ready smile and friendly mannerism. Jesus loves the type of guy Bill McFerren was on earth.
