Daniel John Lang Obituary

Daniel John Lang, 77, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away March 21, 2018, in Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Dan was born February 16, 1941, in the Harvey, ND Hospital to John and Pauline Lang.  Dan attended school in a country school about a mile from where they lived on a farm by Harvey.  They lived on the farm a short time then moved into Harvey.  In 1950 they moved to Goodrich, ND, where he finished grade school.  If there were any kind of sports, Dan played them all.
The family moved to Valley City, ND, where Dan graduated from high school in 1960.  Two years before graduating, during summer and after school, he began working for Giesler Implement in Valley City sweeping floors and delivering machinery.  From here, there was no stopping him.  The next step was a stretch of many years as shop foreman.
Dan married Peggy Grady in Valley City, ND in June of 1961.
In 1978, Dan and his brother Kelly purchased Myron's Body Shop in Valley City, ND, and it soon became Lang's Body Shop and Repair.  Twenty-eight years later in 2006 they retired.  To many people Dan was known as "Mr. Fix it".
In earlier days he enjoyed building hobby stock race cars.  He raced in North Dakota and Minnesota.  His car was always the flying deuce, a powder blue chevy bearing "2" with wings on both sides.  He also participated in demolition derbies.  Dan thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing and bringing home these types of trophies.
It was during this time that Dan met Nancy Brumm who became friend and partner until she passed away.
After retirement in 2006 Dan and Darlene Lines, life partner and best friend, moved to Hot Springs, SD, where they purchased a ranch style home in the country near Hot Springs.  Dan was a person who always liked being busy so he went to work for the Michael J Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home as a maintenance man.  He was currently employed part time at Community Action.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and an infant sister.
Dan is survived by Darlene Lines, life partner and best friend; children, Brenda (Mark) Steffen, Jon Lang of Hot Springs; brothers Jim (Dixie) Lang of Bismarck, ND; Kelly (Sandy) Lang of Valley City, ND; sister Sue (Harold) Dyck of Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Jason and Bella Lang and Mark Steffen Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.  Dan will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Cascade Road Baptist Church in Hot Springs, SD with Pastor Harold Heiney officiating.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Valley, ND, with interment at Memorial Gardens in Valley City, ND.
A memorial in Dan's name has been established to benefit the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veterans Home.
Services are placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's funeral home of Hot Springs, SD.

I remember Danny during his time at Giesler Implement as Foreman, during my farming days with my father in the late 60s and early 70s. I remember his hustle on the shop floor and expertise with farm machinery. Keep us going in the field.
