Doyle B. Thomas Sr., 10/15/57 – 9/18/21
Doyle Bennette Thomas was born October 15, 1957, in Angleton, TX, to Ivoria Jones and Earnest "Sparky" Thomas. He left his earthly body on Saturday, Sept. 18, after a sudden unexpected illness. He attended school in Angleton, TX, where he excelled in all sports: basketball, football and track. Doyle was offered multiple scholarships to Division 1 schools for both basketball and football, but ultimately chose the University of Arkansas Razorbacks Football team where he played under the tutelage of Lou Holtz and Jimmy Johnson.
In 1989 he married his wife, Kristine Hannig. In their 30+ years together, they raised two beautiful children, Doyle Bennette Thomas Jr. (Ben) and Payton Ivory Thomas. His children were his pride and joy and nothing made him happier than the family's being together. Doyle would give the shirt off his back to anyone but loved his family above all else. He opened his home to nephew Jeremy Baumgartner and niece Amanda (Laumb) Sanderson who both resided with the family for several years.
In 1979 Doyle joined the Boulder Police Department after a short time in Law Enforcement in Arkansas. While at the BPD he worked in many different roles, including Undercover, Patrol, Motorcycle Unit, and Detective. He ended his career at the BPD as a Sergeant of the Community Services Division, retiring after 40 total years of public service.
Doyle had an endless love for riding his Harley Davidsons and looked forward every year to his Sturgis trip with his many friends and co-riders. He loved to hunt and fish as well, which he did with both his children. His greatest passions though were attending Ben's football games and Payton's softball games. He was a proud parent and never missed a game.
Doyle was a gentle giant who always had a smile on his face and love in his heart. He was a self-less man who enjoyed his friends as well as his family. He loved the Denver Stock Show and its turkey legs, his cigars, and his scotch.
He loved nothing more than being "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren, Trey and Axel, Eliza and Allegra.
Doyle is survived by his wife Kris of Superior, CO. His son Ben (Nicolette) of Thornton, CO; his daughter Payton who attends The University of Colorado, Boulder; his 2 beloved grandsons Doyle Bennette Thomas III (Trey) and Axel William Thomas. He also leaves behind Amanda Sanderson (Dave)
of Mead, CO and their daughters Eliza and Allegra. In addition, the list needs to include Kris's extended family, whom he loved being a part of and always exclaimed "it was his privilege".
Preceding Doyle in death were Kris's parents, Paul and Marcie Hannig. His Mom Ivoria and Dad Sparky.
Doyle believed in our Lord Jesus Christ and is rejoicing in his love and mercy.
We know we will see him again and he will never leave our hearts.
