Allan Goodman Obituary

Dr. Allan Goodman

Dr. Allan Goodman, age 62, passed away at his residence in Eureka on November 11, 2004, after a long, magnanimous battle with cancer.

Allen was born in Santa Monica, CA, on July 15, 1942, where he lived until he attended the University of CA at Berkeley. In the summer of 1963, he married Lori Bernstein and went on to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. After medical school, further training and a year in the US Army serving in Viet Nam, they moved to Los Angeles, CA. In 1973 Allen and Lori, along with their two children, moved from Los Angeles to Eureka, CA. In 1974 Allen Goodman, along with Larry Hill and Jerome Lengyel, established Eureka Internal Medicine. They were the first board certified Internists in Humboldt County at that time. Allen went on to become a respected Gastrointerologist.

Allen is survived by his wife, Lori of 41 years; his two daughters, Stacey & Amy and their husbands Jeff Eaton & Josh Dov; Allen’s beloved grandchildren, Noa & Ilona Eaton and Zelig Dov; his father, Dr. Harry Goodman; sister, Lynne Goodman; and numerous relatives in Southern California as well as his many golfing, fishing and medical friends.

He is loved by many and will be deeply missed. A special thanks to Keith Linville, Richie Thompson, Kathy and John Barrena, Patty Kubala, Dr. Richard Wolf, Erika, his nurse from Hospice, all of his many family and friends, and all who took such special care of Allen in his last days. A special thank you to Dr. Cory Spencer who allowed Allan to dictate his care for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Sanders funeral home in Eureka on Sunday, November 14, 2004, at 1 pm. Internment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka following services. Officiating will be the Rabbi, Jeffery Schein.

Suggested family donations may be made to Hospice of Humboldt or the charity of choice.

There was a time in July of 1985 that I wondered of a good middle name for my soon to be son. Thanks Alan for the idea. I remind him often of the man whose name he shares. I admired you Alan then and will think of you ofen. Glenda Crnich...oh yes you remember his name is Cory Alan....and to Lori, may God be with you in your time of despair.

When I met Alan working in the hospital, He presented this crusty front but I soon found a wonderful person underneath. He was a wonderous physican to work with. Sympathy to the whole family.

Allan....When you play your first round of golf at your new course, remember to use one less club because of the altitude.
