Annie Lillian Love passed away at her home in Weitchpec on July 21, 2006, at the age of 92. It was her wish that she start her journey from her home. She said she would be leaving just as soon as they made up their minds whether she’d go to heaven or hell. She left for heaven in the cool of the day at 1:45 a.m. July 21st. Her mom will be waiting for her as she was calling her before she left and her beautiful children, Leo Carter Nix Junior, Dixie Lee Marn and Patricia Ann Rocha; her husbands, Leo Carter Nix and Charles Love; fourteen grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; and Mr. Professor.
Her mother started the Grandma Mitchell birthday walk in her late sixties from Weitchpec to Johnsons, and from Weitchpec to Hoopa that has been carried on every year since by the family. Mom started her last walk/ride in 2002 for the twelve miles. She ran in a Hoopa marathon, was in several walk-a-thons at Trinidad, walked the McIntosh road from Willow Creek to Salyer, and a mountain walk in the first revised Deerskin dance, all done in her later years.
She won many ribbons at the Humboldt, Del Norte County Fairs for her beautiful, beautiful crocheting. She was a gardener from a young age, vegetables and flowers. She always loved flowers around her, even plastic. She watered those, too. She loved animals especially pigs. She raised pigs for her income, marked and altered them herself, then had to part with them, hauling them out to Carl Johnson’s Auction.
It was comforting to us that she kept her sense of humor until the end. She was with us for a very long time and will be missed forever. Love you mom!
She is survived by her children, Delma Jean Jones, Marian McLaughlin, and Peter Edward Nix; her brothers, Edward Mitchell and William Wilson. She was Other Moma to fourteen grandchildren, numerous great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived by six generations.
A special thanks to Marilyn, Patty, Honor, Dolly and Denise.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Paul’s Chapel in Arcata. There will be a private burial at the family cemetery. Casket bearers will be Marvin Jones, Johnnie Jones, Kenny Frank, Gerald Owens, Keg Super, Lawrence Nix and Hensley Holt. Following the services at the chapel, there will be a reception at the Blue Lake Grange, Blue Lake.
Arrangements are under the care of Paul’s Chapel, Arcata.
