David Evans Walker, better known to friends and family as Red Feather, left us for his spirit world on March 20, 2007, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, following a scuba diving trip in Cozumel with his grandson Chris.
David was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on November 16, 1938, but for nearly thirty years his home has been in Humboldt County, most of it with his wife and companion Mary Ann Hanson.
David was a man of many talents and many personalities -- from outdoor enthusiast to outlaw, musician to husband and father, he wore each title well. He traveled and scuba dived around the world. Always a teacher, especially of nature, he enjoyed sharing his great affinity with the outdoors.
He loved music, friends and having a good time. His adventurous spirit led to many occupations: lineman, musician/songwriter with the 1960’s band Aquamen, photographer for LAPD, police officer in Etna, construction worker, electrician, and for the past 30 years, a private investigator working initially with Robert Cogan, and later with other local defense attorneys. He also enjoyed two stints as Chief in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and for several years sang with the Arcata Interfaith Gospel Choir.
He was husband, father, grandfather and friend. Many people were touched by his "presence." David was tender, loyal, kind-hearted and a fierce protector of those he loved. In addition to Mary Ann, David leaves behind daughter Cindy Walker and her husband Scott Landis, daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Michael Fogg and their four sons Michael, Chris (and his wife Lisa), Kevin, and David.
Friends and family are invited to an informal potluck celebration of Red Feather’s life Saturday, April 14th at 2 pm at the Fieldbrook Grange Hall located at the corner of Fieldbrook and Evans Roads. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal charity of your choice or to the David Walker Memorial Fund c/o Provident Central Credit Union, 2916 Central Ave., Suite B, Eureka, CA 95501 to help defray catastrophic air medical expenses.

With David around, I felt safe. No one could screw with me. I had David for backup. A large man in stature, and a soft heart.

My friend of forty years, from Topanga to Northern California, and all the stops between. We grew each other up. My heart is so full of David----his spirit resides in me. He's Ten Bears, He's Last of the Mohicans, He's Red Feather, He is my hero.
Gods' Speed, David Walker

Feather was my friend from the moment I meet him. I can't tell you what we were doing ,to protect the innocent. I called on him on many occasions, some were fun, some were serious, some were very serious. Today it's just fodder for dime store novels. We really didn't think we'd ever grow old. Feather never let me down, ever. That's a remarkable quality that only a few have. It was just a drop in the bucket to his extraordinary stature as a human being. I will miss the truck loads of manuer we hauled in these latter more sedate days but old friend I will never, ever miss you. Because you reside in my heart and my love for you cannot be extinguished. God Bless your entire family. Dennis

I met David about 6 years ago through work. David was a great man who had done many things in his life. I loved listening to his stories of all of his many adventures. David will be greatly missed. He was a good man, kind, caring and considerate. My condolences to the family.
