Dorothy Mitchell passed away peacefully in Los Angeles, California on July 15, 2009 one month before her 76th birthday. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Gerry Lancaster; Sherry and Duane Allsip; Robyn and Stan Briedinger; Cathilea and Henry Robinett. She is also survived by her grandchildren Morgan, Geoffrey and Owynn Lancaster; Nichole Mathers, Jake Allsip, Sarah, Emily and Zach Stephenson-Kay; Charles and Landon Robinett and three great-grandsons, Dexter and Eli Mathers and Kaiden Garcia. Her brother Don Boyd resides in Louisiana, her sister Neva Steiner resides in Oklahoma and her brother-in-law Albert Settles resides in Manilla, California.
Dorothy was a native of Arkansas but spent most of her life in Fortuna. In fact she still called Fortuna home and read the local papers faithfully. Known for her friendliness and constant smile, Dorothy worked in many service roles at various Fortuna establishments throughout her 30 plus years in the area and ended her working career at Hoby’s Market in Scotia. She loved her job and loved being able to offer a friendly ‘hello” to customers near and far. All of her daughters graduated from Fortuna Union High School and moved from the area to pursue various careers. Her husband, Bruce Mitchell passed away in 1995.
Throughout her years she was a devoted Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, listening to country western music and baking family favorites.
The family will be celebrating her life at a Memorial Service on September 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Fortuna Fire hall located at 320 South Fortuna Blvd. Dorothy’s favorite music and desserts will be featured and we invite all friends and acquaintances to join us. We hope to see you all there.
