Dwight Conner Obituary

Dwight D. Conner Surrounded by his family, Dwight peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2012 following a brief stay at St. Joseph Hospital. He had recently relocated from Santa Fe, New Mexico to live with his beloved mother, Mona Conner of Eureka. Dwight was born to David and Mona Conner on February 2, 1953 in Eureka. He graduating from Eureka High School in 1972 and in 1979 from San Jose State College with a degrees in Marketing and Business Administration. Later he received a culinary course certificate from the International Cordon Bleu School in London. For 20 years Dwight was an airline steward; his work allowed him to live in various settings from Laguna Beach, CA to Philadelphia, PA. For a brief period he worked international flights to Spain, Italy, Germany and England. Dwight retired in 2003 to devote his full attention to two activities he had pursued as side interests: remodeling and selling homes in the Santa Fe area and refurbishing and selling older Mercedes Benz automobiles. Dwight's many interests included cars, gourmet cooking, fine dining, travel, interior design and real estate. He appreciated the beauty of nature, the companionship of many friends and especially the love of his extended family. Over the past decade he made frequent trips to Eureka as the health of his father declined. After his father's death, Dwight continued to travel from Santa Fe to spend time with his mother. In July of this year, he returned for good and spent the last four months of his life in his childhood home, surrounded and supported by his family. Dwight was preceded in death by his father, David and is survived by his mother, Mona, numerous cousins with their families and dear friends, Connie Logan of Eureka, Randy Eckhart of Eureka, Gary Grannis of Eureka and Peter Schupp of Monroe, New York. The family wishes to thank the medical staff of St. Joseph Hospital and Dwight's physician, Dr. Carolyn Connor. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church (UCC), 900 Hodgson St. Eureka at 10 am on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Contributions in celebration of Dwight's life may be made to First Congregational Church or to a charity of choice. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com, click on obits.

As a former Flight Attendant, I flew with Dwight for a number of years and always enjoyed working trips with him... he made helped make the experience Great!

With his passion and knowledge for Mercedes I learned to appreciate and enjoy them, which led me on a path having a few ever since.

I thank you so much for bringing Dwight into this world to help inspire so many in many ways like enjoying one's own passion and simply to enjoy life.

I just learned of the passing of Dwight when I was in Eureka at Christmas. I went to Jacobs Junior High & Eureka High School with him. I and the other members of the EHS class of 71 will miss him, especially at our reunions. He is the 69th classmate we have lost....very sad. I will always remember his smile & how very nice he was. I read his obituary & am so amazed at the many many things he has done & accomplished in his life.My prayers are with you Mrs Conner & your family.

Mrs Conner,

I'm very sorry to hear about Dwight. (My aunt Phyllis Bailey who lives in Blue Lake brought the news to my attention.) Please accept my sincere condolences. As I know you and many others would agree, it is unfortunate that he died so young.

I got to know Dwight through my cousin, Mike Bailey. He also dated my sister briefly. (Being passionate about Mercedes cars, he enjoyed driving my parent's Mercedes.) Although I only knew Dwight for a few years when I was in High School, I'm really glad that I got to know Dwight. He was a great guy and always fun and entertaining to be around.

We had some really good times up water skiing and goofing around at the Bailey's cabin at Lake Shasta as well as at our place at Ruth Lake. We also visited Dwight when he was working at Sun Valley one winter. We had a great time spinning his Mustang in the resort's parking lot. That car really had some get up and go. One of the side benefits of being around Dwight was that he attracted the girls, usually very attractive girls too. He was definitely a ladies man.

Dwight and I made a road trip to NY in the summer of 1974 which was a really great trip. I seem to recall that he was going back to look at and pick up a Mercedes car(s). We parted in NY as I went on a safari in Africa with my parents. We had some good times and moments on this trip (e.g., bar in Wyoming, being woken up by a Yellowstone park ranger at 4am, witnessing a robbery in NY and having his van broken into in a hotel garage in NY, all in one day).

Mrs Conner, I hope that the above brings you some comfort. Please know that Dwight will always be remembered fondly by me.

Sincerely,

Reed Kelly
