Ernest Christensen Obituary

Ernest Christensen

Ernie Christensen was born to Ingvard and Grace Christensen on February 3, 1922 in Fortuna, CA and passed away on April 20, 2009 with his family at his bedside. He attended Pleasant Point Grammar School and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1940. He lived his whole life on the family dairy farm off of Pleasant Point Road.

Ernie was in the army and served in Korea. Upon his return he met and then married Cecelia Brazil in 1950. Together they operated their dairy for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion, California and American Guernsey Cattle Clubs, the Danish Lodge, Ferndale High School Booster Club and the Assumption Church. He was a 4-H dairy leader for many years. Ernie was honored to be a Ferndale High Booster of the Year and Guernsey Breeder of the year.

While in the army he was given the nickname of "lullaby" for singing while on guard duty. He continued to sing all of his life ... to his cows, in church, to his kids and grandkids and to anyone who would listen. He was known for his cheerful attitude, telling jokes, and after retirement riding his bike thousands of miles from the dairy to all areas of the valley. He loved watching his kids and grandkids show their cattle at the fairs and watching all Ferndale sporting events.

Ernie is survived by his children: Anne and Mike Griffith, Chris and Sherri Christensen, Jim and Kathy Christensen and Marie Adams. He leaves grandchildren: Jeremy (Katie) Griffith, Casey (Robin) Griffith, and Stacie Griffith; Denae, Jena and Scott Christensen; Renee’ and Lauren Christensen; Megan (Mike) Collenberg, Erin (Brandon) Wishneff, and Allie Adams. And great grandchildren Derek Griffith and Addison Collenberg. He also leaves his brothers Carl and Daryl (Alice) Christensen, brother-in-law Henry (Anita) Brazil, sister-in-law Flora Cardoza special cousins Velma "tutti" Titus and Jerry (Blyth) Hunter, and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia, his parents, and his sister Fay Denney.

Special thanks to Bethel Care Home and Redwood Memorial Hospital for their great care and compassion.

The rosary is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd at 7 p.m. at Assumption Church in Ferndale. The funeral will be at l0 a.m. on April 23rd also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be sent to the Ferndale High Booster Club.
