Jack L. Gosney

1933 - 2016

JACK L. GOSNEY Jack passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the age of 82 in Eureka, CA. He was born on February 24, 1933 in Sacramento, California. He graduated in 1951 from San Juan High School in Sacramento, CA where he excelled in many sports and was noted as an All-American swimmer. Jack spent more than 50 years in the retail meat industry as a sales rep, butcher and store owner. In 1970 he moved to Eureka and was one of "The Friendly Guys" with John Fiet and Les Fredde when they partnered together and opened Eureka Market, then Fortuna Market. They were in business for 18 years. Jack then partnered, built and opened Garberville Market. After his retirement, he continued to work as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Cutten Realty and Corder Realty. Jack was proud to be a 50 year member of the Masons, Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was a lifetime member of the Elk's Lodge. He enjoyed and cherished the friendships he made. Jack had many varied interests. In his younger years he loved to golf and was a member of Baywood Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed golfing in the Jerry Lewis Pro-Am Tournament in Redding, CA; and Hawaii with friends. Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Pratt Mountain Hunting Club. But most of all, he loved to cook and many of his delicious meals were shared by family and friends. As Jack said before the end, "It was a great ride....good food and drink, the best fishing and hunting trips a person would want, and wonderful times spent with family and friends. Everything was super. I really can't ask for more." He was loved and admired by his family for his positive attitude. Jack's stories, his values, and his love of family all live on in us. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jonita Gosney. He is also survived by his step-mother, Marion Gosney and step-sister, Carolyn Rodgers both of Missoula, MT. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Michael and Kathy Gosney of Sacramento, CA; Lisa and George Wiegand of Reno, NV; Marcie and Cliff Titus of Ferndale, CA; Stacy Young of Westminster, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chris (Vicki) Gosney; Brian (Jasmine) Gosney; Jamison and Jesse Golenor; Lucas (Jennie) Titus; Matt (Angelica) Titus; Nick (Stephanie) Titus; Hannah, Alex and Kyle Young; eleven great-grandchildren and nephew and nieces. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Gosney and Juanita Howard; his son, Shawn Gosney; and grandson, Nathan Titus. He was also preceded in death by his parents in-law, John and Freida Ramacciotti; and brother in-law and spouse, Ron and Sandy Ramacciotti. The family thanks Dr. Mathew and his staff for the care shown during Jack's illness. Per Jack's request, no memorial services will be held.
