Jeremy Selvage Obituary

Jeremy B. Selvage

Jeremy B. Selvage passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 5, 2004 at the age of 29. Jeremy was born on September 4, 1974 in Eureka. He was a lifelong resident of Humboldt County. Jeremy attended St. Bernard Elementary School, Winship Junior High School and graduated from Eureka High School in 1993. He was active as a player in Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. He was employed as a cashier at Costco where he very much enjoyed working with and helping others. Jeremy loved to “hang out” with his daughter Myranda, go camping and fishing with his buddies and was an avid ‘49ers fan. He was amazed and very grateful for the kindness and support of his co-workers at Costco during Myranda’s recent hospitalizations. He left us too soon and will be greatly missed.

Jeremy is survived by the love of his life and his best friend, Myranda Kelli, and her mother Karen Selvage of Eureka; his parents, Jack and Leslie Selvage of Eureka; his brothers, John, wife Terri and their daughter Natalie of Windsor, and Jason, wife Kristen and their daughter Jena of Rohnert Park. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Marie Jacob of Ferndale and June Kogeler of Eureka; aunts, Marilyn Mathews of Chico and Kathy Pitlock of Willow Creek; uncles, Craig Jacob of Carlotta and Don Jacob and wife Nancy of Poughkeepsie, New York; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Edward Selvage and grandma Gladys Selvage, his uncle Jerry Selvage and his cousin Kenneth Selvage.

There will be a memorial service celebrating Jeremy’s life at Pierce Mortuary Chapel in Eureka on Monday February 9th at 2:00pm and visitation will be in the morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Myranda Kelli Selvage in a beneficiary account that has been established at Six Rivers Bank, 402 E Street, Eureka, CA 95501. Contributions in memory of Jeremy Selvage can also be sent to the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, 770 Welch Road, Palo Alto, CA 94304. Our family wishes to thank both the Costco Company and staff for their kind, caring and timely assistance during a difficult time.

March 7, 2004

My husband and I first met Jeremy at when we worked together at Costco. What brought us closer, was our first born children were born less than one day apart. Our dear friends, Steve and Jennifer Shick (Costco Employees) called us with the heartbreaking news that Jeremy had passed away. My first thought was of his smile. So open, and warm, and welcoming. He always had such a disarming way of making someone feel welcome. Although we worked with him for only 3 years, we thought of him often. We had only the week before, found the newspaper article announcing Myranda's birth, with our daughters, Alyssa, underneath, and thought about Jeremy. What a pleasure he was, and a kind spirit. We hope there will be a small comfort in knowing that he will be thought of and remembered in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and Myranda and her Mom.

Sincerely,

Phil, Andrea, Alyssa and Lauren Becker

Dear Jack and Leslie,

I have been stunned, numb and in shock since I received the saddest phone call of my life. I have been looking at reminders of a much happier time; the invitation to Jeremy and Karen's wedding. I was so honored to walk my daughter down the asile to give her away to your son in October of 1998. That was a beautiful day where I gained a son and such a heart-felt invitation to join your family. I don't think anyone knows the amount of time Jeremy and I spent talking and I know he loved his family. There was a time we spoke and he said he would like to consider me part of his family forever and I told him we all became family on their wedding day and in my mind that will never change. I have one memory that defines what family is all about. I don't remember exactly what day it was but so many of us all connected through our love for Myranda were at the hospital at Stanford and I'm so happy I had a chance to see him and talk to him. Many times I told him I was proud to be a part of his and your family and that will never change. I will call you soon and we can share more memories and prayers for both Jeremy and Myranda. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I received the news about the loss of your beloved son, Jeremy. My sweet grand daughter, April, called me. She and Jermey had remained good friends over the years. Words can never express or ease your pain. All one can do is go on and always remember the great times. Love and support one an other. Sincerely, Barb Slade

Dear

Leslie,Jack,John,and Jason,

My family was shocked to hear about Jeremy,he was taken far too soon. Our prayers are with your family, especially Myranda, in this unbearable time. Take comfort that Myranda now has a fulltime guardian angel, and he can watch over her every second.

I grew up around the corner in Cutten with your family. Jeremy was always so kind and a great friend. I remember the birthday parties and numerous sleepovers, and getting in trouble together. Jeremy was always the good kid,though-that had to be home before the street lights came on.(smile) My brother,Bobby and I loved Jeremy like family and we will miss him. Bobby has managed to stay close to Jeremy, visiting him at his home recently,in Cutten. I would always look forward to seeing Jeremy on my trips to CostCo,he was always smiling and he made it contageous. I would see him around town and we would catch up. He was such a caring and great person, whom we were all lucky to have shared a part of our lives with. He will be remebered and honored in the hearts of so many.

May God bless your family and everyone else grieving this great lose.

Our Deepest Sympathies,

Keith,Linda,Bobby,and Juanita Scott

To The Selvage Family,

My deepest sympathies during this difficult time. My husband and I work at Costco and will remember his smile and love for his baby girl. A few days before he passed I saw him with a huge grin on his face. He was holding Myranda while cashiering. He then turned to her and kissed her very sweetly. I thought to myself what a great dad.

He will be greatly missed.

Dear Selvage Family,

Growing up down the street from your family I can fondly remember hanging out with Jeremy and Jason. Both at your home and at SBE. As our lives went on we lost contact but when I moved back to Arcata Jeremy and I had a chance to catch up and he always had a smile to give. I am so sorry for your loss and no words I can give will ease your pain, All I can say is that your son was truly loved and will be deeply missed. God bless.

It seems like just yesterday that we were in Ms. Overturf's kindergarten class, followed by eight years at St. Bernard's, then onto our years at Eureka High, and finally our few encounters at Ruth Lake. There are people in each of our lives that will never be forgotten because of who they were as a person. Jeremy was always full of life, laughter, and happiness. I will always remember him that way. My deepest condolences to the Selvage family and to Karen and Myranda. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Leslie, Jack, John and Jason,

As with everyone, I was deeply saddened by the passing of Jeremy. In our time, we were the greatest of friends- inseparable. I will never forget the sleep-overs and camping trips to Ruth Lake. Even though we hadn´t seen each other much later on, those few chance meetings were always happy surprises for both. He had such a classic, unforgettable smile and laugh. He and his family will always be in my prayers. With love always, your friend, Mike Tierney

Dear Sevage Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your son, brother, father, friend. I first met Jeremy when his daughter was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. My daughter too has CF. From then on I looked forward to exchanging how our children were doing every time I went to Costco. It seems one of us was always cheering the other one up! It is very sad for our family to loose one of our "CF Family" members from our small community. Jeremy will be greatly missed. It was with extreme sadness that we learned about Jeremy. Dear Jack and Leslie,

Stan and I are so saddened by the death of your terrific son Jeremy. We loved visiting with him at Costco whenever we went there. He always had a smile and a happy update on what his mom and dad were up to: traveling or remodeling your house. He obviously loved you both very much. He introduced himself to us the first time he took our check and saw that we were from Ferndale. From that time on, we looked forward to seeing him. What a terrible loss for you and your family. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers as you try to adjust to life without that charming son of yours.
