Jesse Lawrence Sullivan

Jesse Lawrence Sullivan was born March 6, 1920 in Kosoma Ok to John L. Sullivan and Sallie Jane (Jenkins) Sullivan. Jesse went peacefully home to be with his Lord and family the evening of June 22, 2014. Fourth child of eleven, he had seven sisters Ida, Sue, Irma, Nellie, Pauline, Lenora, and Jody, three brothers Austin, William, and Charles. Jesse enjoyed telling all the stories about growing up in a large family. The family move around a lot due to his father's work. In 1939 at the age of 19 Jesse rode the train from El Paso, Texas to Sacramento, CA. From there he hitch hiked to Arcata to help take care of his niece Sally Watson (Arnot) until his job opened up in the woods. Jesse met his wife to be Lois Irene Hill and married her in 1941. Together they had one son Thomas James Sullivan who passed in 2013. Jesse and Lois were very excited when they became Grandparents to Jessica Pauline (Sullivan) Middleton, and Sean Thomas Sullivan. After sharing 44 wonderful years Lois passed in 1985 and missed seeing their Great Grand Children Lindsey Sullivan, and Morgan Middleton, Great-Great Granddaughter Scarlett Sullivan. Jesse was thrilled to become a Great - Great Grandpa. June 1944 to December 1945 Jesse was in the Army under General Patton and was at the Battle of the Bulge. Jesse served with honor and integrity and was blessed to come home to his family. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal and was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery. When he came home he found jobs with the Curly Emerson mill, Hammond Lumber Co., Sound Lumber Co., and Fleurs Bakery. In 1954 he went to work at Arcata Redwood Co. as a truck mechanic and retired from there in 1983. In the fall of 1988 he met Betty Wise with whom he spent 22 years sharing many wonderful times watching her family grow up and dancing the weekends away. They both loved going out dancing with friends. Jesse was devastated when Betty passed suddenly in 2010. Jesse lived out the remainder of his life at Sequoia Springs in Fortuna, Ca. There he touched the lives of many who will miss his loving ways. The Sullivan and Wallan families are grateful for the wonderful care he received there. He was a wonderful, loving person and will be missed by many! Friends and family are invited to the Viewing / Visitation at Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, 560 12th St., Fortuna, Ca. on Tuesday July1, 2014 from 9:00 AM to Noon, followed by a graveside service at Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, Ca at 2:00 PM.
