John was a true child advocate. He would go out of his way to listen to problems children were having and help with a solution. He will be missed.

I remember this wonderful man. He cherished his work. Was a very kind sole to all whom he worked with. I only meant him a handful of times, but he was always kind. I worked in the Corrections area of Humboldt County. My sincere condolences to his family.

Ron Bass and I prosecuted Curtis Floyd Price before Judge Buffington. It was a capital case and the jury trial lasted 13 months. That's ample time to evaluate a jurist. Judge Buffington was hard working, knowledgeable and fair. The California Supreme Court unanimously affirmed Price's conviction after reviewing the Judge's rulings. We made up an award for him as a judge "who presided over a criminal case which lasted over one year...and a lifetime." He rode the bus from Arcata to Eureka every day during the trial. Rest in Peace Your Honor.

What a great man! I was proud to serve as a jury member with Judge Buffington presiding. Studious, knowledgeable, compassionate, obviously always working through his physical pain, and those beautiful blue eyes ... how could anyone who ever met him forget him?
