Kalin Pelzel Reynolds was born on April 10, 1993 in Fortuna, Ca. He resided in McKinleyville with his parents Mike and Stacy Reynolds, and his brother Colby. He left us too early on March 27, 2009, but his spirit will embrace all the lives he has touched for eternity.
Although many knew Kalin for his passion for sports, awesome athletic abilities, as well as, his academic successes, his world consisted of so much more which were the building blocks for the life Kalin lived. Kalin found the stimulation of a head to head challenge with a 2000 piece puzzle where all the pieces were of similar color and shape as a task to conquer with relentless perseverance. Looking forward to a new issue of the Reader’s Digest-reading and sharing the jokes and stories enclosed to perfecting the art of making a batch of awesome brownies (where he usually had to stake a claim on at least one brownie with a finger print before they were devoured) where just some aspects of his life that brought an infectious smile to his face and contentment to his heart.
Kalin enjoyed running in the annual Trinidad Clam Beach run and finished with amazing race times for his age. This event had become a family tradition which he participated in with his dad, mom, brother, grandparents, aunt, and cousins. He loved to sing along to a variety of music genre and was not inhibited to share his voice whether it was belting out in song while sitting on the edge of his seat at a concert at the age of seven or on a road trip to a basketball game with his teammates and coaches.
His family, friends and the community knew him as a scrappy little guy with a huge drive and raw competitive spirit who always gave 110% in everything he did whether it was on the soccer field, basketball court or baseball diamond. We all wondered how he could get so much out of that little body. He won numerous sports and academic awards-most recently the MVP for McKinleyville High School JV basketball. In Kalin’s mind, this intense sports relationship was just his small contribution to the greatness he knew he and his teammates could achieve together.
Kalin was clearly in control of his life. He lived by the motto of focusing on what was real and how that realism would translate into a life benefit. His insightful wisdom was a challenge to all of us to "just take charge".
Kalin leaves behind his parents, Mike and Stacy Reynolds; his brother Colby; Grandparents: Bernard and Karen Pelzel, Dan and Doris Reynolds; Aunts and Uncles: Pam and Tim Woodward; Darcie and Mark Penland; Kelle Tomlinson; Cousins: Colten Tomlinson, Kalie Tomlinson, Kelsey Vaughn; Todd, Casey and Gavin Bush; Ben Woodward. Kalin was loved by and involved with a large diverse circle of friends and family.
Our family is truly blessed by the out pouring of love and support from our family, friends and community. All are welcome to attend the services, which will be held Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1690 Janes Road, Arcata, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kalin Pelzel Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Umpqua Bank.
Care is under the direction of Pierce Mortuary, Eureka, California.

Dear Mike, Stacy, Colby and Family,
Kalin was a great kid. I never got the chance to thank him for his friendship with Hannah. He definately had a positive influence to all of his peers as well as adults who knew him. His SUNNY disposition will be missed by many.

TO THE REYNOLDS FAMILY:
I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW SORRY I AM FOR YOUR LOSS! THE SERVICE ON SATURDAY WAS SO BEAUTIFUL AND I AM SO GLAD I WENT. IT WAS PROBABLY THE HARDEST THING I'VE DONE, BUT AFTER HEARING ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT KALIN, IT MADE MY HEART REJOICE. I KNOW KALIN IS IN A BETTER PLACE AND HE IS AT PEACE. THAT DOESN'T LEAVE US WITH MUCH ALWAYS DOES IT?! I JUST LOST MY DAD A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I CRY EVERY DAY. I MISS HIM SO MUCH IT HURTS, SO I KNOW YOU WILL HAVE SOME TOUGH TIMES AHEAD OF YOU. JUST KNOW THAT THERE ARE LOTS OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND REACH OUT TO THEM.
I AM SO HONORED TO HAVE KNOWN KALIN. THE YEAR I COACHED "THE BOYS" WAS THEIR 5TH GRADE YEAR. IT WAS ALSO MY LAST YEAR OF COACHING. I HAVE TO SAY, IN ALL THE YEARS I'VE COACHED, I'VE NEVER KNOWN A GREATER GROUP OF KIDS. THE DRIVE AND DETERMINATION AND THE FRIENDSHIPS THAT THEY ALL HAD IS SO AWESOME. KALIN WAS SUCH AN AWESOME KID. I'VE NEVER KNOWN A KID TO HAVE SO MUCH DESIRE. IN 5TH GRADE, HE WAS LITTLE. HADN'T HIT HIS GROWTH SPURT YET, AND YET, HE WAS OUR "SPEEDY GONZALEZ" THAT IS THE NICKNAME WE GAVE HIM. HE WAS LIKE A CAGED BULL WAITING TO BE LET OUT. I RECALL MANY GAMES THAT I ACTUALLY HAD TO SIT HIM ON THE BENCH BECAUSE WE HAD SCORED AN EMBARASSING AMOUNT OF POINTS AGAINST THE OPPOSING TEAM. HE REALLY HATED THOSE TIMES!! ALWAYS CHOMPING AT THE BIT TO GET BACK ON THE FLOOR. THROUGH THE YEARS SINCE THE BOYS WERE IN 5TH GRADE, I'VE TRIED TO COME AND WATCH THEM PLAY AT LEAST ONE GAME A YEAR. IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE WATCHING THEM GROW IN TO GREAT ATHLETES!
THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO BE A PART OF YOUR LIVES. KALIN WILL ALWAYS BE ENGRAVED IN MY HEART AND MEMORY. HE WAS A GREAT KID AND I FEEL LUCKY TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.
PRAY A LOT AND TALK TO KALIN, I KNOW HE WILL HEAR YOU!!
LOVE YOU GUYS....CAMI COOPER CLAROS

Stacey, Mike, Colby, Karen, Ben, and family there are not any words to express how my family and I feel about Kalin's death. I am sorry that I never knew Kalin, from everything Karen's told me about him and from spending time with Colby years ago, I am sure that Kalin was an incredible person and as wonderful a boy as Colby. I can only say that I am sorry because there are no adequate words to express how I feel about Kalin's death. You and Kalin are in my thoughts and my heart.

and Doris Reynolds:
I'm very sorry for your loss. Kalin was a special young man. I loved to watch him play baseball, soccer and basketball over the last 10 or so years. I also enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball against teams he played on. He always brought his A game each and every day. Over the years I officiated several games that he participated in and I can testify that he always played the sport with 110% and always was respectful to the officals. I'm sorry I missed his service Saturday, as you all know my involvement with our youth programs especially LL baseball and opening day ceremonies, I did ask all the crowd in attendence to take a moment to remember Kalin and pray for his loved ones during this very difficult time in their lives. Again I'm truly sorry for what has happened to all of you and my prayers are with you all. God Bless, Carlos Avelar and Ruth Olson and families
