Kenneth Johnson Obituary

James Kenneth Johnson

Peacefully passed away on January 21, 2021 at the age of 65. He was a Humboldt County native, attending local schools.
Ken leaves behind his loving daughter, the pride of his life, Teresa Rose Johnson, alongside siblings Arlene Westman (James), Marilyn Mathews, Carol Hale (Gerald), William Johnson (Judith), Beverly Barilone, Sandra Lindstrand (Lennart), and Lois Johnson. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
He was proud to have followed in his father's footsteps as a carpenter for over 40 years in the local 751 union. He loved the outdoor life – hunting, fishing, and going camping with his family. He was a Dodger's fan his entire life and was known to strike up conversations with anyone wearing baseball paraphernalia. His lifetime passion was being a HAM radio operator under the call sign WA6RTP.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Johnson, his mother and father, Dorothy and Darrell Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
Rest in peace, Ken. We love you and know you are surrounded with your loved ones above.

I got the call from Lois (sister), who informed me of Kens passing. I was devastated. Kenny and I have been friends, neighbors, and long time childhood friends since the early 60's. Ken and I trapped for Coon and other animals when we were very young. We both loved being in the woods. We also liked to trade knives and fishing gear back then. Ken got me into radio. I traded him something for an old crystal radio set, and he helped be put it up. He brought over a bunch of copper wire that he and I strung on the top of my parents house from one corner of the place all the way over to the other side. I thought my dad would tan my hide once he saw that, but he knew Ken and I were just having fun, and he just smiled when he seen it. I was hooked on radio since that day. I didnt follow in Kens footsteps, as he became a Ham Radio Operator. I finally got my license in 2013, but didnt have the gear to talk with Ken from Tennessee to California until 2019. We made the connection finally, and boy were we happy to talk with each other. Im going to miss Kenny until the day I pass.
The day I got the phone call from Lois, which was in the late afternoon, I was once again trying to call Ken on the Frequency we usally tried to make contact on. I didnt know at the time that he had passed. I hope you heard me BROTHER. 73's Old friend DE Tom W4MKC.

Very sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. We grew up around each other, played ball together and worked in construction. I will always remember Kenny’s smile.
