Kenneth Allen MacIntosh

Kenneth (Ken) Allen MacIntosh passed away on the evening of January 10th, 2013 at the Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding, California. Ken was born on May 19, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. From New York, Ken volunteered into the armed forces as a teenager serving in both the Army and the Marines and was proud to be a veteran of the Korean War and serving for his country. After returning from service, Ken held various occupations including being a carpenter, equipment operator, machinist, welder, painter, commercial fisherman, a saw shop owner, a mechanic and race engine builder. One could say that with respect to employment he'd done it all, but his favorite employment was anything that would keep him working in the timber industry or "the woods" as he called it, which ultimately led him to McKinleyville, California where he'd lived for the last forty years of his life making a living and life long friends that he was proud of right up until his passing. In addition to Ken's love of "the woods", Ken had a natural ability for being able to fix or improve just about anything.His skill for understanding mechanical things intuitively and his willingness to help anyone in need often got him over committed though and he'd reflected on many occasion how everyone else's car, lawnmower, chainsaw, bicycle, wagon, heater, etc. seemed worked except for his own. Ken also enjoyed racing. Not being behind the wheel, specifically, but building competitive engines and vehicles whether the racing being done was with stock cars, chainsaws or his son's pinewood derby car. Ken loved his son and daughter very much. Anyone who would listen to Ken would be subjected to hearing how proud he was of his son and daughter. He always tried his best to be involved and contribute in his family's activities and there was no doubt that Myra was and will always be daddy's little girl. Ken had also recently reconnected with his niece and nephew Donna Erb and Pete MacIntosh respectively who he spoke of fondly and who brought him great happiness in his later years. Ken will be most remembered for his storytelling, work ethic, devotion to his family and community, and being for being a good Marine. Ken is survived by his son Kenneth and daughter Myra and Myra's children Donald and Ashley. He is also survived by Rosemary McCallister with whom he loved and lived with for the last 10 years. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Ruth who loved him unconditionally until her passing in 1999. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and caring for Ken during the later years of his life. We will all miss him dearly. A memorial service officiated by Nick Welsh will be held for Ken at Paul's Chapel in Arcata at 10am on Saturday, January the 26th followed by a potluck reception at the Moose Lodge in McKinleyville, Ca.
