Died Sat July 26, 2008, at his home in Eureka, at the age of 85. Born in Oakland, CA, on August 8, 1922, to Freda (Noli) Burdick and Bernard Bart Burdick. He moved to Eureka at the age of 10.
Bob was a World War II Veteran who served as a Medic in the U.S. Army. He ran Party Boats out of King Salmon for many years. On July 1, 1972, he rescued 2 men from the water near the North Jetty. Bob received the Heroism Award from the American Legion for his quick thinking and expert handling.
Bob owned Eureka Boat and Tackle for many years and was well known for his boat building and fiberglass repair. Burdick skiffs and scull boats are still found throughout the North Coast and across the United States.
Bob was an avid outdoors man who loved to fish and hunt and loved Humboldt County and the surrounding area for its beauty and abundant wildlife. In Jan 1984 he caught the prize of his life- a State record Steelhead from the Mattole River weighing in at 24 lbs, 12 oz.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Robin of 43 years; his children, Bart (Karen) Burdick of McKinleyville, Lindsay Sorrels of Medford, OR, Leanne Duffitt, Lori Shull, Janera (Jed) Watts and Mark Burdick all of Eureka. Grandpa Bob, I remember all the times all of us Grand-kids would play around your Boat Shop, staying summers at your house, going to Fort Humbolt. We all had so much fun. I never got to go out on your boat fishing with you. In the future I will catch a big fish to make you proud. Maybe even a Marlin! I got my love for the Sea from you. I have always gotten compliments on my eyes and I tell everyone they came from you. I love you and will miss you very much

Grampa Bob, Your long and beautiful life here with us was cherished. You are and will always be loved by everyone who knew you. I will always remember your beautiful smile and the twinkle in your eyes when you would say "I love you!"... Every time I cast my fishing pole I will think of you and smile with great respect and love for you. I need your guidance in selecting the perfect spot for the beautiful Chest you made for your mother in our new home... I know you will figure out the perfect place :-) I miss you tremendously, but know you are by my side every step of the way... Mom, Tami and I are coming down tomorrow to spend time with the family and talk about all the great things you accomplished throughout your life. I Love You Grampa, Always and Forever, Love Kimbo :-)

Dear Robin,
Joan and I are on the road. We are sitting here in Tulelake, CA, thinking about you and Bob. We are remembering his energetic laugh and his big smile. The first time that Joan met Bob and you, she came home and told me that she had just met a man who I would definitely like to meet.
After that introduction, Bob and I spent many a day together, fishing steelhead on the Smith River and catching salmon off the Casey. We spent time sanding fiber glass boats and talking fishing and hunting.
Eureka is certainly going to miss this unique personality that interacted within its boundaries. Joan and I are are really going to miss him, too.

Dear Robin; It has been many moons since I first became acquainted with you and Bob. I and Velma are so sorry to see that You, us, and the world has lost Bob. I was one of those two that Bob Turned The Casey back into the seas to save that day in 72. My wife was very thankful and I owed the rest of my life to Robert. I have thanked the Good Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for that HERO,though he could not even swim, turned his boat and his living back into the big waves that took the windows 13 feet above the deck out of his boat to rescue me. That day I met a true Hero who did not know me, but he would have done the same for anyone. I have come to know Bob and his family since that fateful day when but for Bob,I would have died but God sent his angel in Bob Burdick to put my feet back on solid ground. Robin,I wish I could carry your loss but, that is something that God will let no one but you feel the true loss. I pray Gods Mercy for you and the rest of Bobs' family as our Gracious God takes Our True Hero Home to his rest. May our God Bless and keep you in this time of loss. Our Love; Frank and Velma
