Scott Eskra Obituary

SCOTT STEVEN ESKRA Scott Steven Eskra, age 42, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ March 7, 2018. Scott was born in Eureka, Ca. on October 4th, 1975 to Steve Eskra and Catherine Grace. Scott was well known and liked not only throughout Humboldt County but across the country. He was an avid sportsman and an incredible athlete, who excelled in baseball. Scott's baseball skills became apparent at an early age hitting "bombs" out of the park at Redwood Empire Little League. His abilities continued throughout Babe Ruth, EHS, Humboldt Eagles, College of the Redwoods, the Humboldt Crabs, and Lassen College. He eventually played 3rd base on a full ride scholarship at Ole Miss. He received multiple all-county and MVP awards and Scott was later inducted into the Humboldt Crabs Hall of Fame in 2015. If you knew Scott, you knew he loved the outdoors. Instead of a crib, Scott could be found bundled up with his dad, Steve, in a scull boat at a very young age. Athough he loved all types of hunting, his favorite was shooting ducks near his home overlooking Humboldt Bay. Next in his line of sight was deer hunting, in which he was equally skilled not only with the rifle, but the bow. He took pride in feeding his friends and family with abalone, "buck meat", crab, salmon, halibut and duck. He built his home from the ground up and decorated it with his numerous trophy mounts. On a hunting trip to Cody, WY. with Craig and his hunting partners, Scott dropped the largest elk of his life, which made the cover of Teton wilderness magazine. Part of his pleasure in hunting was being able to spend quality time with his life long friends and family members. He loved to hunt with his good friend and best man in his wedding, Eric on his property in Hayfork, California. Scott also felt right at home at Showers Rock Ranch, hunting with his extended hunting family. He spoke of many special moments and memories spending time in the outdoors with his "Dad's", Steve and Craig, his brothers, and so many hunting buddies, too many to name. You know who you are and so does Scott. Instead of chasing the Major League Baseball dream, Scott decided to return to his roots in Humboldt County where he began work in construction. Like everything else he did, Scott excelled in building homes and made it his career. It was here where he teamed up with his childhood friend, Abe, and the pair built numerous quality homes throughout the County. Scotts pride and joy was his daughter Ariana Catherine Eskra, his love bug. Like father, like daughter, "Ari" picked up the joy of hunting and the love of sports just like her dad. The love of Scott's life was his wife Brandy Eskra. After a long friendship which lasted over a decade, the two developed a deep love for one another and began dating in 2013. They married on May 2, 2015. The couple designed his wedding ring to mimic a duck band, that he cherished and wore with pride. Scott happily helped parent Brandy's children Austin Chase Evenson and Jovie Ann Fischer. From a previous marriage Scott also had a special bond with Hunter and Gage Barsanti. Scott had the privilege to pass along his knowledge and love of baseball to Gage. Survivors include; precious daughter Ari Eskra, beloved wife, Brandy Eskra, stepchildren, Private First Class Austin Chase Evenson (United State Marine Corps) and Jovie Fischer, siblings, Cole and Ross Eskra, Michael Hansen, step sister Michelle Hansen (Philip) and their children Emma and Bennie. Step brother Scott Hansen, and his daughter Isa. Parents, Cathy Grace, Steve Eskra (Teresa) Craig Hansen( Lisa) and In-laws Dennis and Phyllis Ganfield. Brother in-law Dennis Ganfield Jr. Step grandmother Beverly Hansen. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and all his wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Russell and Blanche Scott. Paternal grandparents Augusta and Joseph Eskra. Step grandfather Harlan Hansen also Ron Umbertus, a very dear friend and his faithful companion and dog "Elle." If you knew Scott you know what his favorite beverage was. So cheers, and raise a glass to an amazing husband, father, son, brother, friend.. legend. You will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, we will see you in Heaven. Memorial will be held Saturday March 17th, 11:00 am at Faith Center Foursquare Church, 1032 Bay St. Eureka Ca. 95501 immediately followed by a celebration of life at the Elk's Lodge, 445 Herrick Ave, Eureka Ca. 95503. In lieu of flowers, donations can be be sent in Scott's honor, to Redwood Empire Little League. R.E.L.L. P.O. BOX 39, Cutten, Ca. 95534 (707) 407-7023. I am so sorry to hear this news. I grew up in Humboldt at a neighboring school while Scott was tearing up the HDNL and Scott quickly became a local legend. All the local athletes looked up to Scott. I remember sitting in the stands in Willow Creek watching a summer softball tournament that Scott was playing in. I was telling all my friends that Scott Eskra was playing and I could not wait to see him hit a softball. His mother was sitting near and overheard me. I spent the entire day speaking to her and was taken back about how nice his family was. My hear goes out to his entire family. I know he most be so proud of his angel daughter. RIP Scott....

We lived next door to Scotty when he was just a youngster until the time he left for College.
We watched with amazement as he played baseball, slamming balls over the fence, even pitching at times, there were no better players out there than 24!
He hunted ducks with Steve out of the Scull Boat at a very young age and excelled at that as well, just recently we ate a couple Brant that Scott had shot, and some nice Crabs he trapped in Humboldt Bay!
I took him Abalone diving with our son Joe several times when he was young and guess what, he went on to be a first class free diver!
Craig took him Deer and Elk hunting from a very young age until his untimely death last week, Scott was once attacked by a Bear he had wounded with his Bow and Arrow!
Rhonda, Mendy, Joe, and I enjoyed many camping trips and vacations with Scott, Cathy, Craig, Michael, and Michelle, even taking Scott with us on a trip to Nashville where I took a photo of Scott and Joe with Miss Tennessee!
We all love and miss Scott, our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family and friends!
See you on the other side Scotty!

Scott was my best friend from 12 years of age through college. Our years together brought so many memories, that I think about and tell others daily. Scott was such a great baseball player and duck hunter, that he inspired me to do the same. The love he had for his sister Michelle and brother Michael was amazing. He told me the many times he rode in the scull boat with his dad and then taught me how they did it as we sculled across the bay many times. From playing ball to hunting and eating BBQ elk meat on the deck, we had a great time growing up together. I wish I would have known his recent family. As lives get busy I regret not staying in contact like I should have. It seems like you miss out on great things if you don't stay in touch with the people that made a difference on your life. You will be missed"Scotters" more than anyone can imagine. We are so so saddened for your daughter, wife and all family and friends that you were close to. RIP brother!!! "24"

I knew Scotty really good through baseball. The first time I heard his name was playing against Scotty in the 12 yr old all stars. He hit a homer off me which was the farthest I had seen in little league and I should mention it was to the opposite field at that. From the ages of 13 through 18 we played baseball against one another and with each other in the all stars every year and also the Humboldt Eagles. I was the pitcher and he was without a doubt the best hitter. Scotty was so talented that I know if he would have kept pursuing baseball he would have had a great MLB run. Scotty was clutch, when you needed that hit he was the man. In the field he was always the guy I hoped the ball was hit to because he didn't make errors. The very last time I seen and talked to Scotty was slow pitch softball in a game in which he was 4 for 4 with 4 dingers. The was great hitters and then there was Scotty Eskra. He was by far the best baseball player offensively and defensively I've personally played with and everyone would agree. Beyond baseball Scotty was a friendly, loyal, handsome guy. Scotty Eskra was that guy. Not in a million yrs was I have thought I'd be writing this about Scotty at 42 yrs old. Such a likable guy was Scotty. Ever since I heard this for some reason it's been on my mind. I feel so sorry for his entire family and especially his Daughter and wife. My condolences and I'll always remember Scotty Eskra as being that guy. Rest In Peace Scotty!

To the Eskra Family,

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of Scotty. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time. Scotty was an awesome guy. He was a real person, no fake crap with him. He treated everyone the same, day in and day out. Every time I'd see him, he'd greet me with that same little smile on his face. I have many fond memories of Scotty, both on and off the baseball field. Before I moved to Wyoming in 2016, we used to run each other quite often at Country Club Market. We'd always share some BS and a laugh. Sure wish I would've taken him up on his offer to come over for a beer. I'll never forget you, bro. May you rest in peace, and I'll see you down the road.
