Virginia L. Dunlap (Remington) passed away peacefully June 05, 2007, at her home due to a long but very brave battle with Rigid Parkinson’s Disease.
Virginia was born in Eureka to Arnold and Ruby Remington. She always remembered with much joy the years in the redwoods that the family spent while at the summer home on the Van Duzen River. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1950. During her junior year she worked at Henderson Center Sweet Shop. Later Mama worked for the Western Union Company and finished her working career at Pacific Bell Telephone Company. In 1971 Mama met the love of her life Jesse B Dunlap. They married June 01, 1973.
Mama enjoyed puttering in her flower garden and growing vegetables in the greenhouse with Dad. She enjoyed collecting new recipes for her and Dad to try out which she loved copying and passing along to the kids. She loved going on family wood cutting and picnic adventures. Mama always found just the right rock for Dad to load up in the truck for her rock garden. And they weren’t always under fifty pounds. She loved watching, feeding and identifying nature’s birds. She also loved ocean fishing, going on deer hunting trips and vacations with Dad and the kids. Mama loved traveling the United States with Dad after their retirement and going on their special twenty-fifth anniversary cruise to Alaska.
Mama is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Jesse B Dunlap; her three children by her first marriage and their spouses Ruby and Bill Mendoza-Dean, Ricardo (Rick) Mendoza and Loretta (Lori) and Micheal Mendoza-Gann, also her four step-children and their spouses Jo Scaife and David Townsend, Jeanna and Ken Robledo, Vanessa and Eric Fredrickson and Jess A. Dunlap. Grandchildren D. Jon and Judy Fini, Bryan and Leslie Sawyer, Samantha Sawyer, Julie Scaife, Shala Fredrickson, Datri Robledo. Great grandchildren Skyy Sawyer, Victoria and Manuel Farias-Fletes, Rachel and Jose Gonzales-Fletes, Antonio (Murphy) Fletes and Michael Fletes-Fini. Great great grandson’s Joseph Gonzales-Fletes and Manuel Farias-Fletes. Brother Marvin Remington and his wife Barbara. Her in-laws Mary and Alfred Ornelas, Luis and Juanita Mendoza, Tom and Becky Dunlap, Ken Dunlap, Jody and Leonard Cook. And many other loving family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Ruby Remington; sister and brother in-law, Marcella and Robert Davis; aunt, Frances Exline; great granddaughter, Rayne Sawyer; nephew, Luis Mendoza, Jr.; mother in-law and father in-law Zema and Hubert Dunlap; sister in-law Retha Jean Dunlap; sister in-law and brother in-law Betty and Arvin White and niece Jayne White.
Mama was able to be lovingly cared for at home and to be with Dad until her journey here was finished and she could be with our Creator and Savior and her loved ones in Heaven.
She wanted to give a special thanks to her step-daughter, Jo, her and Dad’s main caregiver. Also to daughters Ruby, Lori, Jeanna, and Vanessa for the times they could be there. And thank you to caregivers, Gloria, Tara Dieters, Donna, Shelley, Deena, and Jennie. Thank you to Doctors Heidman, Palmer, Osborn, and Fisher, St. Joseph Hospital Staff and Hospice. And of course her special friends Eleanor, Mary and Helli for their loving friendship and frequent visits.
There will be no services at her request. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Of California, Hospice of Humboldt or Miranda’s Animal Rescue.
