Edna Lafont Obituary

HARDWICK - Edna Pearl Lafont, 93, of Hardwick, died peacefully on Sept. 30, 2015, at the Greensboro Nursing Home.

She was born in Orchardville, Illinois, the daughter of the late Edward and Floy (Cornstubble) Bright. She graduated from high school in Fairfield, Illinois, in the class of 1940.

She entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 5, 1943, during WWII. She proudly served her country at Treasure Island, California. She was honorably discharged on July 26, 1946, at Balboa Park, San Francisco, California.

Pearl was employed as a night auditor for a hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. This is where she met her husband, Kenneth Warner "Ken" Lafont. They married on Nov. 22, 1946, in Littleton, New Hampshire. When Ken was discharged from the U.S. Army, they moved to Wolcott, Vermont. In 1950, they purchased their home in Hardwick, where she has lived for more than 65 years. In her earlier years she stayed at home to raise their three children. Later she was a bookkeeper for Lafont's Snowmobile Business, Cal Fosters' Machine Shop, and Orleans Southwest School District, all in Hardwick. She retired in 1987.

Pearl was a member of the Wolcott chapter of the Eastern Star, American Legion Post #7 in Hardwick and a member of that club's auxiliary. She enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing and amateur radio. She was blessed with five generations.

Survivors include three children, Brian Lafont, of Skagway, Alaska, Janis Dewey, of Hardwick, and Dean Lafont, of Orange; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Doris Bridges, of Decatur, Illinois; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ken Lafont; a grandson; three brothers, Clinton and Stanley Bright; her twin brother, Edward M. Bright; and a sister, Ivy Holler.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening, Oct. 4, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm St., Hardwick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at the United Church of Hardwick with the Rev. Dr. Evelyn Lavelli officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in the Fairmont Cemetery in Wolcott, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Hardwick Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 837, Hardwick, VT 05843.
