Jean Claude Bonin

BARRE - Jean Claude Bonin, 86, of Summer Street, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at the Woodridge Nursing Home & Rehab in Berlin, Vermont, with his loving family at his bedside.
Born in Kingscoft, Quebec, on Jan. 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Rosa (Dauphin) Bonin. Jean Claude attended school in Canada.
In 1959, he married Ghislaine Maheux in Ste. Marc Catholic Church in Coaticook, Quebec. In 1960, the couple moved to Barre where they made their home and raised their family, and he worked for Roland Lajeunesse. He later learned the trade of a sawyer in the granite industry, and worked for Bianchi and Beck & Beck Granite Co.
He and his wife owned and operated Bonin's Rest Home on Summer Street in Barre for many years.
Among his interests were woodworking, spending time with family and friends at his camp, and riding his pontoon boat on Greenwood Lake.
He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, St. Jean the Baptist and the Barre Canadian Club.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ghislaine Bonin, of Barre; his son, Michael Bonin, of Barre; his two daughters, Johanne Bonin and her companion, Tony Lisanti, of Westport, Connecticut, and Nancy Prescott and her husband, Harold Prescott, of Barre; his four grandchildren, Jason Grout, Katelyn Grout, Emily Prescott and Anna Prescott; and one great-grandchild, Amelia May. Also surviving are his five brothers, Leopold Bonin, of Southington, Connecticut, Yves Bonin, of Danville, Vermont, Gerald Bonin, of Newport Center, Vermont, Antonio Bonin of North Troy, Vermont, and Armand Bonin, of Newport Center, Vermont; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean Claude was predeceased by his parents; one granddaughter, Erica Gillian Grout; three sisters, Simone Tardif, Sr. Anita Bonin, Leontine Girard; three brothers, Laureat Bonin, Joseph Bonin and Romeo Bonin.
A Mass of Christian burial and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre.
Calling hours will be held at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Extra parking is available in St. Monica's parking lot.
Burial will follow the Mass in Hope Cemetery in Barre.
