Jon Pallas Obituary

WASHINGTON - Jon Arthur Pallas Sr., 80, of West Corinth Road, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 15, 2016. His loving family was with him at his bedside.
Born on June 30, 1936, in Williamstown, he was the son of John and Esther (Belville) Pallas. He attended elementary school in the "Two Room Schoolhouse" in Graniteville and was a graduate of Williamstown High School's class of 1954.
Following his high school graduation, Jon enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an electrician before being honorably discharged at the end of his enlistment. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard and served there with dedication and distinction for 25 additional years.
While in the service, he married the love of his life, Marie Ann Dickinson, in the Websterville Baptist Church. They made their home and raised a family together in Washington for 49 years. She passed away in 2006.
His entire professional career was spent as a self-employed master electrician before retiring from both his business and the Army National Guard.
Jon was a founding member of the Central Vermont ATV Club, a scoutmaster for both the Graniteville and Washington Boy Scout troops, and was a longtime volunteer firefighter with the Washington Fire Department, even helping in the construction of the fire station.
Some of his special hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing, riding ATVs, being at camp, outdoor sports and taking trips to Maine with his wife, Marie, even continuing the tradition after her passing. He especially enjoyed being around people and loved his family and cherished grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin Pallas, of Milton and Jon Pallas and his wife, Karen, of Plainfield; a daughter, Kim Martin, of Washington; four grandchildren, Alycia Martin, Joseph Pallas, Emily Pallas and Samantha Pallas. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and leaves no living siblings behind.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Jon's life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 1 p.m. in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Washington. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont ATV Club, Attn: Terri Crawford, 105 Eastman Rd., Orange, VT 05641; or the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge of the arrangements. For a memorial guestbook, visit www.hookerwhitcomb.com.

To Jon's family, I knew your father thru high school. He introduced me to your loving mother after that. We lost touch after a few years, but I will never forget them and will especially remember all the fun we had during our high school years. I am so sorry for your loss!

Kevin, Jon, and Kim: I'm sorry to hear of your loss and to hear that both of your parents had to suffer with cancer, it's very sad. It's also sad to read about your Aunt ( your Dad's sister) dying just 1 day after your Dad.
There's been a lot of water that's flowed under that bridge near your house you grew up in since I've seen any of you. There are a lot of good memories of those good old days of the 1970's that I hold dearly . I've spoken with my mother and sister, and we all send our condolences to each of you.
