Lorraine Houle Obituary

BARRE TOWN - Lorraine M. "Nana" Houle, 84, entered Heaven's gates on June 21, 2017, with her family at her bedside.
Born in Websterville, Vermont, on Dec. 2, 1932, she was the daughter of Milan and Alberta (Goodeill) Poirier. She attended local schools and graduated from Spaulding High School.
Lorraine was a consummate wife, mother and homemaker. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her loved ones. She was willing to try anything as long as it involved being with her family. She enjoyed camping, fishing, spending hours in front of campfires telling silly stories and cheering on her grandchildren at football and soccer games. Lorraine was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for treasured family gatherings. When she started out the meal saying, "I tried a new recipe," you knew you were in for a treat. She also loved watching baseball and was a huge Boston Red Sox fan.
The last six years were a challenge for her as she battled Alzheimer's disease. Although the illness robbed her of many precious memories, it never changed her inner values.
Lorraine is survived by her beloved sons, Roger, Randy and Ricky, and daughter Debbie Goulet. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Mathew and Justin Goulet, Brandon, Ashley and Jonathan Houle, Kimberly Parrott, Aaron Poirier and Toni Campbell. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Roger E. Houle; her two brothers, Roland and Henry Poirier; and two sisters, Betty Town and Doreen Welch.
A private graveside service was held Saturday, June 24, at the family mausoleum in Wilson Cemetery, in Websterville, followed by a family gathering in celebration of her life. Rev. Kim E. Kie, pastor of the Hedding United Methodist Church of Barre, led the service.
Pallbearers were Roger Houle, Brandon Houle, Yves Goulet, Mathew Goulet, Justin Goulet and Randy Poirier. Flowers were placed on her casket by her grandchildren.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 300 Cornerstone Drive, Suite 130, Williston, VT 05495; or to The Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641; or the Palliative Care Unit at CVMC, 130 Fisher Road, Berlin, VT 05602.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the CVMC med/surgical unit nurses (they were incredible), the exceptional CVMC Palliative Care providers (Dr. Jonna Goulding and Priscilla Minkin), Sequanna Sky, from Choices for Care, who lovingly cared for Mom while at home, the special nurses at Barre Gardens.
Arrangements were in the care of the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home, 58 Summer St., Barre, Vermont.

Debbie, Roger and family;

Although I didn't know your Mom and you for a long=g time, the few weeks that I met her at Barre Gardens were enough to see what a super person she was. It's so inspiring to see such wonderful people like her with such a positive approach to life. Debbie and Roger, you were so good to your Mom. You were so fortunate to have such a great Mom and she was so fortunate to have such a great family.

Roger and Anne,

Roger and Anne,

We were sorry to have read in the paper that your Mom and Mother-In-Law had passed.

We wanted to send our sympathy to you and the family. There is no other like a Mother. May she R.I.P.

We wanted to also express our sympathy in the loss of your Uncle Henry. I knew you Mom and Henry's family when I was growing up and their sister Betty was always a dear friend of mind since I was a young girl. We grew up together and stayed friends all of those years.

With sincere sympathy,
Roger and Shirley
