Martin P. Dery

GROTON - Martin Peter Dery, 59, of Route 302, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, with his family at his bedside.

Born on Nov. 20, 1954, in Newport, he was the son of Pierre Dery and Pierrette (Mercier) Dery. He attended elementary school and North Country Union High School, all in Newport.

An auto mechanic, Martin had worked for Goss Tire and Lyon's Pontiac and Cadillac, both in Berlin. Martin enjoyed working on anything with a motor. He also spent time in Canada working at a textile mill and living with his Uncle Andre.

Martin's greatest pleasures were taking his wife for long rides on his Harley and cooking for his children. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his children. Working on automobiles, camping, fishing, hunting and skiing were special times for him.  

Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Tetreault) Dery of Groton; his children, Casey Germain and her husband, Shawn, of Orange and their children, Brooke and Shawn Jr., Rossignol "Ross" Dery and his partner, Casey Brown, of Williamstown and their children, Camdyn and Cameilla, Martin Dery of Marshfield, Phillip Dery of Groton and his fiancée, Abigail DiMario, Heaven Dery and Shayle Dery, both of East Corinth; stepchildren Holly Millette and her son, Leo, Lewis Millette and daughter Lillian, both of Berlin, Gabrielle Larrabee and daughter Adrianaa of Georgia, Amber Taft and children Drew, Noella, Jacobey, Dante and Thoren; his mother, Pierrette Mercier-Horvath, of Boca Raton, Florida; his father, Pierre Dery of Sherbrook, Canada; a sister, Helen Ducharme and her husband, Dennis, of Marshfield and their sons, Eric and Ethan; brother Bruno Dery of Barre; a stepbrother, Jerry Humiston of Williamstown; a niece, Paris Pearson and her husband, Justin, and sons Rishon and Justice of Utica, N.Y.

He leaves behind his friend and ex-wife, Debra Jewett; Martin and Phillip's mother, Vicky Clark; and Heaven and Shayle's mother, Silva Royston. He also leaves behind his best friend, Brent Beyor.

His sister, Johanne Van Arsdale, and brother, Francis Dery, predeceased Martin.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
