Edward Zeller Obituary

Edward H. (Ted) Zeller, 89. December 24, 2021. Ted was born in Nutley, NJ. He spent most of his growing up and young adult years in Sea Girt, NJ. He graduated from Manasquan High School in 1950, where he played a lot of basketball and edited the yearbook. Next came Princeton University, where he played a lot of pool, belonged to Tiger Inn, and graduated in 1954 with a degree in psychology. He then spent a couple of years stationed in Germany and traveling in Europe courtesy of the Army. When Ted returned home, he joined Mutual of New York (MONY) insurance company, and his mother set him up with Abby Taylor. Ted and Abby married in 1960, settling in Sea Girt. Ted so enjoyed his stint as a volunteer fire fighter that he once left his infant daughter asleep alone in the front yard to answer the siren. Daughter Susan was born in 1962 and daughter Carol in 1965. Ted transferred to MONY's Syracuse, NY office to head their human resource department in 1965 and moved the family to Skaneatles. Ted loved the small community and living on the lake. Son David was born in 1969. Ted moved into banking in 1974 with Connecticut National Bank in Bridgeport, CT, and the family moved to Newtown, CT. He and Abby divorced. Ted began work with Danbury Hospital and he married Nancy (Stull) Neal, welcoming her three children. They lived in Newtown, CT and traveled in Europe until her death in 1998. Ted got lucky a third time, marrying Betty Lou Brock in 2001, adding her two children to the list and moving to Longmont, CO. They also traveled the world. He introduced her to golf, and they played innumerable rounds in Longmont, Boulder, and Naples, FL. Ted enjoyed woodworking in his well-equipped shop. NY Times crossword puzzles (in pen) and Jack Reacher and Joe Yeaphorn were favorites. He always carried a small pocket knife and always made sure every room had at least one flashlight. Ted is mourned by his wife, Betty Lou, daughters Susan (Gary) Smith of Layton, UT and Carol (Paul) Volk of Colts Neck, NJ,, and his son David (Connie) Zeller of Freehold, NJ; grandchildren Katie and Ben Smith, and Hayden, Matthew, and Jack Volk; 5 stepchildren and families, and brother Robert (Ginny) Zeller of Shrewsbury, NJ, and several cousins. "Love you, keed." At Ted's request, there will be no services. Condolences may be sent to [email protected].
