Iris Watson Obituary

Iris Watson passed away on December 26th, 2023 at the Prestige Care Center in Fort Collins after a long, hard battle with Frontal Lobe Dementia. Iris was born on May 2nd, 1957 in Morrison Colorado to Betty Schlechte and Ben Mills. She was the sixth of eight children, growing up mostly in the Boulder, CO area. As a teenager she moved to Nuremberg, Germany with her family. She quickly became fluent in German while attending high school. Iris worked at Molnar Ski, Neodata, Engineering Measurements, and did commercial and residential cleaning for over 30 years. She attended Front Range Community College where she earned her certified nursing aide certificate in 2004 and provided home heath care. In 1977 Iris married the love of her life, Mike Watson in front of friends and family in Boulder, CO. They enjoyed years of companionship building a life and enjoyed taking their two beloved black lab dogs camping and fishing. In 1982 they moved to Longmont and started a family; they welcomed their son, Michael in 1984, and their daughter, Kelly in 1988. Iris relished her role of being a mother, she was the best mom and her whole world revolved around her children. In the mid 1980's Iris began her study of the Bible. On December 6th, 1986 she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved volunteering her time to teach people about the Bible and treasured the close friendships she built with her service partners over the years and was a true and loyal friend. Iris had a heart of gold and a sense of humor that was second to none. She loved babies, gardening, and traveling. Her laugh could brighten anyone's day and she made even the most trivial tasks fun, memorable, and full of laughter. Thankfully, her best qualities live on through her children and grandchildren. Iris will be dearly missed. Iris is preceded in death by her grandmother Emma Schlechte, mother Betty Schultz (Schlechte), and brother Robert Mills. Iris is survived by her husband Mike Watson, their son Michael Watson, his wife, Kayla, daughter Kelly Cavender, her husband, Steve, five beautiful grandchildren: Jacob, Rachel, Reagan, Samson, and Carter. She is also survived by brothers Gunther Schulz and wife Carol, Ben Mills and wife Jane, and sisters Margie Schenk, Kathie Shaw, Phyllis Evans, and husband, Gary, and Ingrid Arran. Memorial Service for Iris will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on 1531 Vista View Drive, Longmont CO. 80504 at 1 pm on Saturday February 3rd, 2024. I just happened upon this news of Iris´ passing. Iris came into my life in 2008 just when I needed someone like her. She helped me through a very hard time and I´ll never forget it. She added a joy to my life that stays with me to this day. Iris loved animals and I´ll never forget her peals of laughter when our new kitten helped her make the bed. She helped me with everything and we just had so much fun. A donation to the Longmont Humane Society has been made in Iris´ name. Rest in peace, dear sweet friend.

I'm sorry to hear of Iris's Passing! We knew each other in the late 70's through the 80's when we both worked for Neodata in Boulder, CO. We had a great friendship at work, and outside of work. I was new at Neodata, and wasn't really sure about who this lady was? She seemed pretty friendly and secure in who she was. It didn't take long with a few conversations, and we became fun friends! We enjoyed going out for drinks, and back then, our work crew would take turns meeting at each other's homes to party after work on Friday's! Great fun back then! At some point, Iris left Neodata for new adventures in life, and a family! I was always happy for her, but we lost touch with one another. It always sounded like her life went a good direction and fulfilling for her. I will never forget you Iris, I can picture you in a sunny field holding a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and your beautiful smile.

Iris (Rosie) I really loved you. I had so much fun with you no matter what we were doing. You have helped me through some very sticky situations. I am sorry that both you and Michael were robbed of a great life together.
For ever and always
