James Zapf Obituary

James F. Zapf - On November 22, 2017 passed from this life. Jim was born in Longmont Colorado, August 8, 1945 and grew up on the family farm in Hygiene Colorado. Jim eventually left the farm and moved to Alamosa - Monte Vista area, while living in the area he received his BA in Spanish from Adams State College. He worked for the Head Start program and was named the Director of the Head Start program. Jim was also the supervisor for VISTA, an outreach worker for the Migrant Council, as well as a teacher in a pilot Bilingual - Bi-Cultural program for the Boulder Valley Schools. Later Jim lived in the Navajo Nation near Shiprock, New Mexico. There he worked in the oil fields, a tree nursery, farms and construction. He was part of the Teatro group in Colorado, now known as Teatro De Ustedes which performed throughout the state. Jim received a degree in architecture from CU Boulder. As an architect he designed several buildings in Alamosa, at DIA and King Soopers Stores. A special thank you to Pamela Hartley for the excellent care she gave him for the last two years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Rose Zapf. He is survived by his Sister Ruth Sapp of Fort Collins, Brother Tom Zapf of Longmont, Nephew Rick and George Sapp of Fort Collins and many cousins and friends throughout the state, he will be missed by many.

He was very special. His fight for the oppressed was impressive. He was a fine man, good friend, and admired by so many. He was our son's padrino, chosen because of his moral fiber, strong character, and giving nature. We'll miss him, I don't think I'll ever meet someone that compares. We'll always be grateful to have known him. Rest peacefully compadre.
