Betty Davenport Obituary
The Cherry Log Community lost one of its most cherished members, Betty Sue McClure Davenport, 84, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, at Pruitt Healthcare in Blue Ridge.
She was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Gilmer County, to the late Arvil and Emily McClure. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, cousin, grandmother, aunt and friend to many.
She was well-known for her cooking (especially her sweet treats) and hospitality. Her home was always open to all, where she treated everyone with kindness and respect. She had an uncanny ability to listen without judgment, offering sage advice and comfort to anyone in need.
She was a guiding light to all her family and friends. In 1995 she received an award from the governor of Georgia, issued by the Georgia State Senate, recognizing her for her selflessness and generosity that positively impacted her community.
Betty and her husband, Toy, were active members at the Cherry Log Community Center, where they spent countless hours volunteering, for over 40 years. She will be missed by everyone in the community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Toy Davenport; sons, Junior Davenport and Jeffrey Davenport; sisters, Bessie Cox, Versel Mooney and Marjorie McClure; and brothers, Johnny McClure, Billy McClure, Hassell McClure, Bennie McClure, Clifford McClure, Ranel McClure and Marvin McClure.
She is survived by her siblings, sister Barbara (Ernest) Watkins, of Cherry Log; brother, Bobby "Butch" (Janice) McClure, of Flintville, Tenn.; grandson, Michael (Kristi) Davenport, of McDonough; great granddaughter, Kara Davenport; special nieces and nephews, Tony (Pam) Patterson, Joanna (Jason) Rhodes, Nicholas (Charlie) Patterson, Karen Patterson, John (Amy) McClure, multiple other nieces and nephews all loved by Aunt Betty, and special family Debbie (Melvin) Johnson and special friend, Sandra Key.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Hagin and the Rev. Roger McClure officiating. Music was by Renee Watkins and Rhonda Aaron.
Interment followed in the Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Will Watkins, William McClure, John McClure, Michael Davenport, Nicholas Patterson and Matthew Watkins.
