Catherine “Peggy” McLendon

Catherine "Peggy" Carlton McLendon passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, in Ellijay. She was born to Cheatham and Elizabeth Carlton in Birmingham, Ala., on Dec. 10, 1921. She lived in Birmingham until she was 16 years old when she moved with her parents to Atlanta, where she attended Girl's High School.

During World War II, Peggy worked as a hospital volunteer. She married William "Mac" McLendon in 1956. She was an active member of Gordon Street Presbyterian Church where she was the president of the Women of the Church in 1959. In 1972, Mac and Peggy moved to Fayette County and joined the Fayette Presbyterian Church where she was very active until moving to Ellijay in 2018 to be near her family.

Peggy was known for her kindness and sweet disposition. She loved to host get-togethers at her home or at the family cabin in Rabun County. She loved Atlanta and North Georgia and even at the age of 90 would load up her neighbors or members of the church and take them to enjoy these areas with her. She had many friends and was loved by all.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Carlton McLendon (Julie); her nephew, James Carlton (Janice); niece, Catherine Fite (Wiley); granddaughter, Diane Stine (Chris); and her great-grandson, Wyatt Stine, along with her many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City, from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. A graveside service followed directly at Westminster Memorial Gardens at 12 p.m. with the Reverend Lee officiating.
