Dartis Newton Obituary

Dartis Leon Newton, 80, of Ellijay, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025.

He was born May 2, 1945, to the late Clearance Woodrow Newton and Susie Davenport Newton and is preceded in death by brother; Billy Newton. He loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Crossroads Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in hunting, fishing and spending time in nature. A skilled marksman, he even built his own shooting range. He was also a master beekeeper who took great pride in caring for his bees, as well as his beloved dogs and chickens. Above all, he cherished his loving wife, Betty Sue and deeply valued his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Sue Newton, of the home; son, Mark Newton (Susan), Ellijay; sister, Betty Pruitt; three grandchildren, Ryan Newton (Megan), Ivy Newton, Trinity Newton; four great grandchildren, Gracie Newton, Easton Newton, Charity Newton and Levi Newton, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services were Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Randy McClure, the Rev. John Newton and the Rev. James Sevcech officiating. Interment followed in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Music was conducted by Harold Sanford. Pallbearers were Eddie Bowen, Dale Corbin, Joey Patterson, Bo Sanford, Jeff Kiker, Brondy Davis, Curtis Easley and Ryan Newton. Honorary pallbearers were David Elliott, H.C. Williams, Brandon Kerr and Harold Nelson.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
